I'm picking up the 1973 Gran Torino 4dr sedan that I mentioned previously in another post this weekend.  This is a green on green 351c/2v/FMX/2.75 open rear car.  This is a complete car which has been in the same family since new.  I'll post pictures next monday, but wanted to let everyone know about it before we start to part it out.  Front clip is excellent.  Never been painted or wrecked.  Interior is an amazing time capsule.  Let me what, if anything, anyone's interested in.  Once we strip it, the rest goes to the crusher.

Paul...you need to stop tormenting with your clean sheet metal.
I wonder what the drive time would be from Omaha to North Carolina and back in a 1979 F150 4x4.

Thanks everyone.  I sent each of you a private message about your particular needs.  I'll have photos on monday as I won't get the car until tomorrow.  Here's a special message for Andy:  Forget that sheetmetal at the Torino farm and drive on down to Western North Carolina (I'm 2 hours west of Charlotte, so I'm even closer to you) and get these front fenders and anything else you want.  You know the price will be right.  LOL!   LOL

I already did it a few years back, went to Cleveland then to Cincinnati and back home.

Unfortunately, with money in hand, a roll back to pick up the car, and a free saturday, the deal didn't happen.  Long story short, seems to some family issues with this one.  May still happen, so I'm posting photos here.  Sorry about that guys.  Thought it was all buttoned up.  Paul~

Jim,
It is a good candidate for a resto.  Not sure how this deal will sort itself out.  Are you or anyone else on the site interested in the whole car as it is?  If someone is interested, I could try to work out something with the owner to get the title (I had planned to buy it without the title as I had planned to part it out, but if there is interest, I could get the title) I'd rather not kill another decent car if possible (I still flinch a bit at the 1976 Gran Torino station wagon that sacrificed itself last year) Paul~

OK, the 4 door is physically at my house now and I'm actively parting it out.  I'm posting some pictures below.  Let me know if you're interested in anything.   The whole front clip is in fantastic shape.  For giggles, we put a new battery in it and it fired up.  I included photos of the decklid lock cover, photos of the decklid itself which is in amazing condition.  I wish I had had this piece when I was doing the body work on my car.  You can see in the photo below it still has the factory "paint OK" markings!  Also included a photo of the dash pad.  Other than the Y shaped crack in the front it looks great-still squishy.  Paul~

I've killed cleaner cars before.
Better to save all parts rather than it get just hauled off and crushed.
I'd take the front clip, but not able to get it till spring right now at this rate!

Rear bumper.  Would make a good core.  Has a dent on the passenger side corner, but otherwise looks good.  Even has the funky rubber bupper in the center.

If you are sawing that car up-one piece to save is the entire trunk lip area at the back of the car on the filler panel.
Alot of cars get rot in that channel, and good luck finding the correct replacement.

That 73' would work on a '72-'73 Torino or Montego.
If you plan on cutting that car up, that is.
My only advice...

Andy,
Thanks for the thoughts.  Having cars on your property here in Western NC just isn't a problem like you've experienced in the past.  A couple of guys in neighborhoods within a mile of my house have at least 10 cars/trucks/tractors in various states of decay.  I think the sheriff's got a car or two in his front yard....LOL Paul~

I'm still hunting a right rear floor. I may actually go out find a donor car. The trunk is about done and the floor is the only thing between me and putting the body back on the frame. I may see if the section behind the seat in my Ranchero is close enough then patch it afterwards.

I'll call you about the floor.  Here's the front bumper and all of its assorted bits and pieces after some demo work last night with Enrique' and me and some hand tools (no air tools here).  Let me know if anyone wants any of this stuff.  Paul~

Got the carpet and underlayment out last night and as I suspected the floor is in fantastic condition.  90% of the original paint still showing with only minor surface rust in the usual areas.  No rot at all.  I'll clean it up this weekend and post pictures.  A couple of folks have asked about various areas of the floor and it sounds like each of you is interested in a different part so maybe we can work out something.  More to follow.  Paul~

Jim and Chuck,

Here are the photos of the floor.  As you can see there is 0% rot; only a light patina of surface rust which will come off easily with mild media blasting or rust mort to seal if that's the way you want to go.  Let me know if either of your is interested (there's a guy on the Ranchero forum who's also interested in a portion as well).  I don't have a way to cut out the floor, so we'll have to try to work out something.  Paul~

I'm starting to be like Andy, "all Torino, all the time".  Spent most of yesterday tearing down the front of the car.  Got the wheel well trim, decklid, headlamp buckets, right front fender, inner fender well off.  Engine/Tranny going this weekend to another guy with a 72 GTS locally.  Talked to a Ranchero guy who wants the rolling chassis.  Should be gone by mid October.  I think I just like tearing stuff down for the giggles.  Any therapists on this forum?  I could use a less expensive form of therapy.  Wacko

It's theraputic to me. My wife got acting oddly this afternoon and then laid down for a nap. So I went outside and removed the following from the wagon:

grille surround
grille
badge
parking lights*
radiator
fan shroud
flex fan
that metal battery hold down bracket my sedan doesn't have
headlight buckets

* when I pulled the passenger side parking globe, I removed the bulb socket and found ANOTHER bulb socket rolling around INSIDE the globe...pulled that too, the 1157NA bulb is GOOD, the socket is dry rotted!!!

I also noticed a cooling system label on the radiator support. Says to cold fill the radiator 2.5 to 4 inches below the neck!

Found about ten pounds of rats nest around the washer bottle, which is FULL of blue fluid :)

and...rat pee...:(

I also grabbed the heat riser duct tube thingie and pulled a 1/2" drive 19mm 12pt socket out of the bottom of the radiator support. Who knows HOW long it's been under that radiator! At least 17 years for sure but maybe longer than that!

Next on the list is to pull the header panel, front fenders, hood, radiator support, condenser, front bumper guard rubber inserts, and then I'll work my way back to the tailgate!

P.S. I also managed to find a fire ant pile. My left ankle is burning. Got them all out but now I gotta treat it with toothpaste, get the fluid out...

P.P.S. I forgot, I also took the F, O, R, and D letters off the header panel. Only broke 1 post on the D. Others are perfect! And they're METAL, not PLASTIC!!! So I know they're original and all. Sad news, I was only able to save two of the eight plastic inserts that hold the posts into the header. I put them on the F. And all this crap is in the second seat of the wagon waiting on me to take the carpet out of the van to transfer it over.

Be a man: buy a sawzall.

Three basic power tools:
A sawzall, with good, HEAVY DUTY bi-metal blades from a complany like MK Morse out of Ohio. Range of lengths, generally 12"-18"

A 4.5" electric grinder, with thin metal cutoff wheels.

A good set of safety gear, goggles, gloves, ear protection...

And prey your neighbors can put up with all the noise.

I also like my weapon of choice, my HD air hammer and a freshly ground wide chisel.

Personally, if you are going to save the pan, section the car like I did the '72 green GTS wreck.
Saw the roof on the pillars, cut the firewall in half, cut the quarters off, cut the floor pan up over the area above the rear axle.

Work your way down from the top, and slice and dice off the panels you want to save.
Now, when I cut the quarters off, I sawed through the rocker panel area

To give you an idea, there is a whole hell of a lot of metal in the rocker panel area. At some places, a 1/4" of layed metal.

The easies thing to do is just cut the body away, and leave the floor pan intact so who ever needs it, let 'em section if they are buying the entire pan from you.

I would tell you, if you saw the firewall in half, save the cowl. I have noticed recently a couple cars getting cowl rot on the 72-76 stuff, and this is a panel alot of guys don't think to keep/sell.
