Then again, there's the difference between understanding the issue and being able to EXPLAIN it
Billy, you seem to be pretty good at putting a lot of things in understandable language

I've recently installed Eaton 2" drop springs on the front of my '76 Montego wagon w/ 460 (original). I also purchased 2" drop springs for the rear, but haven't installed them yet. These were advertised as a 2" drop from ORIGINAL ride height. The actual drop (on the front) turned out to be about 1 1/4". I'll add some before/after pics when I get a chance.

I will have to replace all 4 springs on the red wagon after I swap the drivetrain. Actual weight difference going from a six and cast iron 3 speed to a 302 and an aluminum 5 speed may not be that different, but new springs will give it the feel and performance I'm after.

Actual weight difference between NO floorboards and NEW floorboards might be considerable.. |

Ordered some Moog CC801 for the front and CC811 for the rear, .75" spring spacers for the rear and 1" spacers for the front should allow me to get some serious rubber under the arches and make sure I don't scrape any speed bumps!

Isn't cc801 a rear spring?

I replaced my 76 Torino wagon rear springs w/ new Moogs and it sits just right like new. Now I am looking for 15" rims to replace the orig 14's. What car or truck models and years will bolt-on correctly? And what size 15" tires can I run w/o rubbing? I want to re-use the standard dog dish hubcaps if possible, also. 1" whitewalls are hard to find on 14' tires nowadays (I managed to find ww 14" Hankooks on the internet)

Those look great, that's close to the size I'd like for wheels and tires.

Just as an update. My CC811 springs are currently in UK customs and due for delivery on the 11th so with any luck I'll be able to get then fitted! Assuming the rears can be done on the drive with little more than some blocks of wood and a jack
No need for spring spacers on these to get my required height! And they should then allow my monster rear tyres to go on |

Andy,
I have Moog CVPI springs in the front with 1/2 coil cut, and Moog 8531's rear. I also run poly bushings, and an Addco bar in the front and rear. The rear end easily keeps up with the front in the corners, it's not too hard to get some oversteer, so I wouldn't want a much stiffer setup. Here's a pic of the cars stance. I have a 400, C6, no A/C. |

New rear springs are on! Still not quite high enough for my liking though so I'm going to buy some 1.5" spring spacers to get it up some more! Extra rake angle needed😆
Will upload some pics tomorrow once I'm back on a computer. |

Yeah the CC811 use .75 bar. Much stiffer but that doesn't really bother me as I'm used to cart springs on my other cars

I just put front springs from a 2010 Dodge 2wd pick-up, cut to fit. They started out longer then I needed, w/ both ends square. I cut one square end off (basically mimicking Dakota front springs @ 845 lb/in.) which were a little tall. I took off an additional 1/2 coil. The spring rate compliments the Moog 8531 HD rear springs nicely. The car sits about 2" higher in the back, the ride is firm but nice, and it flat goes around corners. I got the springs used off of ebay for $25. It's yet another modification that turned out surprisingly well, further transforming the car into a real terror.

Looking for some recommendations for springs for the base 2 door '72 Torino I'm building. Had a 302/C4. Going to a 460/C6. No rear seat, no A/C, no power options except steering and brakes. Want a firm ride, and I want it to sit down a bit over the tires (which will be larger than stock). Trying to keep a budget, though, so cutting coils would be fine to sit it down and raise the spring rate.

I'd recommend the combo I've got, mine seems to have sat down a bit more with the 440 in there but cutting a coil or two off would get it to cover your tyres nicely. Assuming you wont be running 29" fronts or 30.5" rears either.
On the rear the cc811 (I think thats what I listed earlier) would work but then don't fit the 1.5" spacers like I did, either that or the 803's which I think are slightly shorter |

If you want a stiff, firm but controlled and flat ride, Moog CVPI springs. They should also help with the weight of that big 460 and C6. I am running 8531's in the rear and they complement the front well with Addco sway bars. The car is pretty balanced in the corners and doesn't understeer nearly as much as it did with the stock suspension. If you want a firm ride, I wouldn't run the replacement Moog springs for the '72 Torino. The stiffest ones they sell are still much softer than the even the factory competition setup. My spring suggestion is stiffer than the factory competition springs.

Vince, do you happen to have the part number for the fronts? Going either online or to Auto Zone this week to order them. Thanks!

Hey Joe,
They are Moog 80090. I had to trim half a coil off mine to get the stance I wanted. They are rated at 710 in/lbs.
