    Posted: 28-November-2009 at 4:26PM
This S&H car YouTube video shows a steering wheel that might be stock or an aftermarket replica. Does anybody know if there were actual Sport Steering Wheels available through Ford dealers for Torino's from 72 to 79?

Would this be what it looked like, and who made them for Ford?

Yes they were made by Ford I had one on my Torino for a long time, it replaced my rim blow wheel, when I retired it. In fact I just sold mine to Psquare for his Cougar.

What emblems were available for the middle? Here's one that has a chrome horn button in the middle, it would be cool to see a brochure from that time that shows the sport steering wheel dealer options.

Here's another steering wheel I've never seen on a Torino. Anybody have one on their car?

The trucks used them too . They had a Ford Blue oval emblem in the center. Thatis what I used on mine when i bought ii in 1981 . Other cars had a Crest type emblem another had a Stallion emblem. The picture that you posted is what came on my car when it was new. That's the 3 spoke Rim Blow wheel.

The Rim Blow wheel was on all '72 & '73 Montego GT's but with a different center emblem.
I've seen the Torino center emblem on eBay from time to time so you'd be able pick up a Mustang or Montego GT rim blow wheel and swap the emblem out.
There are also a few places that do rim blow restorations but it 'aint cheep!

The same rim blow was available for Mustangs  and Cougars (factory option) from '69-73 for sure.  I had one on my first car, a '69 Mach1. Most of these go for $250-$300, some sellers want $800-$1,000 but they never sell.
I picked up a green Cougar wheel (restorable) for under $100 off ebay and I plan to restore it myself this winter.  From there you can swap out the pad for the right one or if you have the right pad you can switch the center emblem.
Most of these have cracks where the 3 spokes join the wheel and along the hand grip, so to find a cherry one unrestored is difficult.  The rim blow rim costs about $100 to replace, but if you have one that is spotty you can usually get them working again- I did with my first car.
~Chris

Edit:  Ford also offered a lesser-known 2-spoke wheel that is rim-blow, but everyone seems to want the 3-spoke.

I have a sport wheel with the 3 crest "Torino" center cap. I'd be willing to sell the button for the right price.

I like that piece. I have a 1972 factory Cruise piece I plan on using, rim blow wheel. Only problem is the rim blow switch is not cheap.

Years ago when I first got my Elite, I had a '71 Lincoln Mark III parts car. I tried the rim blow wheel. I found it REALLY annoying. I kept honking the horn moving the car around the yard.

My 74 torino with the 460 pi , had a rim blow it looks good ,but come cold weather the horn part is solid like a rock .  It was phased out due to not working in cold conditons. The sport wheel was used in to early 80's mustangs. Beware of this steering wheel as there is one that has a horn button and locks the steering and the 79 to 82 mustang model where the horn is on the steering column as well as the locking unit.

I'm going to buy a Sport steering wheel first, if the centre cap doesn't have the Torino crest
you show in the picture I'll find out the price you want for your cap, thanx.
