What is up with all the green cars backvin 72 &73? There are a few membersvwho own green cars, plus you see alot of green cars for sale on ebay & craigslist.I'm notva big fan of green & this coming from someone who owns a green vehicle, but only cause it was given to me,but I would love to change the color but the interior is all green. That's what I hate most about the cars is they have to put an all green interior so you either have to put out some bucks for a complete new interior kit cause even if you spray the plastic you really can't do that with the seats.Anyone know how many green Torino's were produced vs. the other colors.Seems to me the built alot of them or maybe the green color pickled them,LOL & preserved them cause the green cars seem to be in better condition than some of the other colors.

Funny you mention that, my donor car for my project was/is green!!  But mine is light blue.   But some people dislike my color a lot too, so I guess it's all just a matter of taste.  I personally think the light blue is awesome and very unique.  Now, that grabber green '71 Mach 1 429 Ram Air featured in this month's Muscle Car Review is pretty sweet, ya gotta admit!  But green looks better on a Mustang than a Torino, IMHO.

Funny you say that becuse when we found our car on a farm, I wasnt going to buy it because it was green on green! After thinking about t and looking at some pics I decided to buy it becuase LOVE gran torinos. When it is done, it is going to be painted a dark metallic green with either a black stipe running down the side or the bottom trim.

Greens and browns were very popular in the '70s, so I'm sure a lot of Torinos came that way, as did a lot of other big sedans and coupes. The dark olive tone of the greens on the Torinos and other Ford products of the time were quite nice, I think.

Don't hate on the coloured interiors! I would pay extra to get a green interior in a green car! Black is SO boring, and so overdone in the musclecar world. Plus, black, grey and beige is about all you can get in modern interiors, so one has to look to the past to get any kind of interior personalization. True, the olive interior isn't as cool as the dark jade green of later models (like mine Big smile), but it's still a thing to be cherished, not painted over or replaced!

Well if the guy that bought Eastwood's Torino had bought a Blue car it would be all about blue. What ever the color thats what it would be, simple fact. Personally I think there are more green cars now because of it. Maybe more than Ford originally made!! All I know is a green interior would get to me after a while!!! And yes I love black interiors!!!!!!!

I think it's the other way around: the guys who bought Eastwood's Torino found a nice example in green first BECAUSE there are more green ones around. That, and the green is a nice subdued colour, hiding a lot of muscle underneath, which is in keeping with Walt's nature.

Most of the green Torinos that are for sale now have been green for many years before Hollywood picked up on them; I'd say that the movie has made them more popular, but not too much more numerous, at least not yet.

Sure is interesting magazines don't think the same way, when was the last time you saw a green cover car? Not to often! I still say color choice on the movie car was coincidence not choice. BTW what colors did Ford choose for their brochures???

I agree, it was likely co-incidence, but what I was saying was that the popularity of green when it was new was why likely they found a nice GTS in that colour. That having been said, don't bet that a lot of thought went into Walt's Torino; being one of the main "characters" of the movie, there's no way Mr. Eastwood would just grab whatever came along.

As for magazines (especially rags like Hot Rod), of course they'll choose a flashy, popular colour for their covers, that's what draws attention. However, just 'cause fire engine red or black are the "ooo, aaaah" colours doesn't mean a nice green car wouldn't get lots of respect on the street or at shows. I think the crowds appreciate some variety!

Anyway, I'm not trying to diss black - my T/A is black, after all, I do love the colour! - but since I love my cars mostly factory correct, and I love the options one could get in the "old days", it breaks my heart to think of society's classic car "rainbow" getting painted over with common colours!

well there will be nothing common about my interior as I plan to have it redone. The seat will be two tone with inserts and the inserts on the sport panels will match the middle of the seats and dash will have attention as well.If I can afford & find shop that can do it have a name embroidered on the seats. My car won't be stock as I am a kustom guy and modifications as well kustom paint are certain so nothing will be plain or common about it.Ford made a good car but with todays technology & my skills I can make it better, certainly unique. btw,my formal roof is factory red w/black interior it might stay that way not sure as I bought a GTS that now will get the mods instead,It's no Q code so I don't mind doing mods plus it has cancer so I will have to do something with the rear wheelwells anyway so while i'm there they will get widened for the deep dish slots & narrow the rear as well.I won't cut up a good rust free car for mods I always find one w/cancer cause it has to get cut anyway so I just change it then

there was a time when they said red cars were more likey to get into an accident , reason more red cars on the road, there was a time you could have any color you wanted, as long as it was black, The latest issue of mucle car review is full of green cars. But you got to also know that greens ( maybe not grabber green) are usally chosen by more mature , and maybe more careful buyers, That may explain the high survival rate of green cars, My 72 malibu 350, was originally ordered  by my grandmother at age 60, it's seafoam green.

Out here in Az people order a lot of white or tan cars and those colors get really boring after awhile! I changed colors on my car because after all these years I got tired of the same color(bought it new in 73) And it's like having a new Torino!!

wow now your showing your age,LOLI was in grade school in 73.Another rare thing is that you don't find manyvoriginal owners that still have their car & it's in good condition or restored and drive them. Some might have them but it's a yard ornament of rusty metal and old rubber being claimed by nature. on another note my very first complete paimtjob was on my grandfathers 68 Olds Cutlass it was Dark Olive Green Metallic,I did the body & paint at Tech School in my Senior year.Painted it with DuPont Centari Single Stage Enamel paint.Classic car and classic paint, now everything is Basecoat/Clearcoat Urethanes.Painted alot of lacquers back in the day, stuff was great for spot repairs.Cars were built with metal back then not beer cans & plastic like today.

I am a fan of the green, mostly because mine is!Thumbs Up It has the dark green interior as well, I just

have to figure out what shade of green I am going to paint it. Any ideas? The ivy glow green offered be

the factory appears to be nice, but I cant find very many good pictures of it to have a good idea what it will

look like. Any body have any? This color would look killer with some 17 inch american racing wheels that

would be painted black.

Green was the poular color in the 60s and 70s. I know that my parents did thier major appliances in avacado, which is they same genre. The carpet was avacado as well. They kept them or bought used avacado when they died, that is until there was no more supply of used appliances or touch up paint in that color-then they went with black and white. Its much like the gold color in my bathroom, and my parents bathroom as well. It was just "of its time".

LOL!!!

I love the green on those cars. However...

When I moved into my house which was built in the late '70's, it had the Avacado tub, toilet, and sink on the main level, the Aztec Gold versions on the lower level, and White versions on the top level. Lime Green carpet, Orange carpet, Peach and Light blue walls, velvet wall paper, embossed wall paper, "grass" wall paper as well. Took a while to rid myself of that '70's porn look! Horrible, horrible tastes back then. Thank goodness it didn't trickle down through some of our favorite cars!

I've seen Steve's car in person, and it is a badass shade of green. Paint looks so deep, you could dive into it.

Thanks. I actually bought three different shades of green and painted three different sport mirrors and made my choice from there. Looks good inside under lights but outside in the sunlight it really pops.
