I just got my list of equipment and build information that I ordered from Ford (so cool that they provide that for free!), and my car was built in Atlanta on 5/5/1977! So, my car is exactly 33 years old (as of yesterday :)! Talk about good timing on the information arriving.
Happy birthday!
The options sheet shows the heavy duty suspension (man I'd hate to imagine the light-duty set-up) plus everything else I already knew about; it doesn't list the heavy-duty alternator, though; was that part of the suspension upgrade or standard with the rear window defroster?
It also lists an open rear end. Was the posi-trac differential not standard on XR-7s? I thought that's what the catalog said, but that's not always right, either... Or maybe we Canadians got screwed over.

How exactly did you order this. And no, posi wasn't standard. |

I went to the Ford (of Canada) website and filled in the standard e-mail form and asked if they could send me a list of options/features of my 1977 Cougar, VIN *insert VIN here*. They replied and said that they would forward the request to their research group, and 8 weeks later, here she is!
I did this with my mom's Grand Marquis a number of years back, too.
Note that their information isn't always correct (my mom bought her Marquis new, so I knew when some things weren't right in its description), but it's interesting if nothing else.
Weird that my car would be ordered with the heavy duty suspension and not posi... maybe the buyer knew he'd never be winter driving it and thus wouldn't need it?

Okay, good to know. I guess that's Ford's nod towards making the top-line cat a bit livelier in the corners, eh? Again, I'd hate to see the soft-sprung Cougars. |

That bad, eh? I'm not surprised, I guess! Nice skinny bias-plies on there, too, I hope :D. Hey, for once Canada gets a service/something of value that the US doesn't! It's a rare day when that happens... |
