Thanks again for the info guys, I wont worry about it for now and i will stay with the 429. I have a dive block as well so I wont bother buying any cranks and stuff. Shane sold me the car and gave me the dive 460 block. So I will plann on buying a complete 514 rotating kit for that with kaase heads when the economy picks up. I would gladly trade my Wellcraft bowrider boat for a stroker kit with almn heads.

If you need a 460 crank, I'll have one in two months from a good engine.

that's good advice, he goes by 'the Mad Porter' and can also spec/grind a custom cam for the application

If you get the big valves, there is specific porting that needs to go along with them to make them even useful.  You also may need to have new seats installed in the head depending on if they were originally hardenend and if you wish to use unleaded fuel.  Personally I'd go get the porting gude from Scott J  http://reincarnation-automotive.com/ and then work from there on valve sizes and results.  Medium effort passenger heads can make 550+hp on a 429 if you don't mind a gnarly cam and premium fuel all the time.

I have to be patient,  If I put in a different crank I may as well wait and go back to my 514/521 plann. My wallet sucks rite now which is why I am putting it back together as a 429. with a 460 I have to change the pistons and crank, I just want to get it done cheap. I can get a valve grinder and do my own work for $250 or pay my local mchnst $900. I cant afford to pay attention rite now.I have a 460 block with a 514 future some day, But for now I was wondering how much hp I can get with my ported dove=c heads on the 429. My next purchase will be my bottom end bearings and oil pump. By the way this DOVE-A block is a 2 bolt not a 4 bolt. But not worried about that, its real clean!

Go big. That way you are ready for the future. The only thing limiting the power you can make is your wallet.Wink

If you are not thinking street driving, then you might as well start by putting in a 460 crank to increase the cube. These can be picked up pretty cheap.
It sounds like you were thinking to use stock cast iron heads.
For the cost of increasing the valve size you can purchase a set of Kasse Aluminum heads that will give you considerably better flow and HP.
I have seen 429's pushing 500 hp with cast heads, some good porting, and still running on pump gas.
I would recommend you join the Ford Big Block Forum (http://www.429-460.com/ ). There is a section on proven builds as well as guys who eat, breath, and live for these engines.

Hello there again,   I have a 1970 1/2  DOVE-A block. I plann on going with the 2.24 / 1.74 valve job, and was told that would be too big for a stock 429. He said go with 2.19 / 1.71 valves !! What is the pro opinion with you guys ?  He also said I was limmited to a cam selection because of the deck ht.
How much power can I squeeze out of a 429 ?  Not planning on a street legal car .
