If the timing chain breaks on a 1970 429 motor what else is it going to destroy?
Will the motor turn over without the pistons smashing the valves or the crank hitting the cam?
Have an opportunity to pick up a car with the motor IF it is worth putting a chain in and resell it.

I don't think there is a 100% neutral position for the camshaft, hence if the timing chain is broken the you would be hitting a valve at some point if the cranking went beyond the chain break (which in most cases it would).
It would be luck that nothing was damaged in a confirmed chain break (as opposed to it slipping a notch, which it could survive). |

The only way to know for sure is to take it apart.
