I'm not sure if anyone has posted this website showing Fiberglass Hoods and Trunk Lids for 72-76 Torino for sale. Just click on the (70-76 Fairlane) button. http://www.usbody.com/  Here are some pictures of what a 72 GTS hood looks like before and after paint with the hood scoops cut out. http://www.torinosaurus.com/gallery2b.html

what is the weight on one of those hoods, i like it but it needs to be atleast 3/4 or 1/2 the weight of the original hood.

That's a good question, and I'm not sure. However the weight savings of the fiberglass hood and trunk lid goes along with taking out the front hood hinges, the front hood locking mechanism and related parts. On my car the trunk lid paint was vandalized and it's rusting from the inside out, so it would be cheaper for me to replace it with the fiberglass lid.

does anyone make the fenders in fiberglass? How about a manual steering box for a 72-73 Torino?

Does anyone know if a stock '72 Gran Torino hood w/scoop fit on a '73 Gran Torino Sport?  Are modifications required or is it an exact match?

Thanks!

WinkYes , it will fit. You will have to modify the hood latch. Take the latch off of the 73 hood and put ut on the 72 hood!

Uh, gentlemen.... the '72 hood will not crossover to later model years. Sitting a '72 hood next to a '73-'76 hood will make the differences quite apparent.....

Very interesting..  I'd be curious as to the measurement of the raised center section on your 73 nose (with photo).  The 1973 grill area is much wider than 1972, and effects the hood lines, which is what prevents the hoods from crossing.  Check out the pictures on the USbodysource.com website of the 1972 and 1973-1976 hoods, differences are very clear there..

Brandon,  Do you have pics of the front of your car?

I have recently sold my 73 , but I still may have some pictures. I DONT understand why its a big deal. There are two more here in my area that have the 72 hood with the scoop  on a 73. One Torino and one Ranchero. I know that the hood wont fit a 74-76 but I have not had an issue with a 73 ,yet. Thanks for the info.Star

Look at the amount of flat hood above the headlights..  There is much more on the 1972 at the bottom..

Wow!  I didn't mean to start such a hot debate.  I had found a '73 GTS with what appeared to be a 72 hood w/scoop at the web site www.torinocobra.com/guest_htm/lance.htm  It belongs to a guy named Lance in Allen Park, MI. It looks great in the picture.  It sounds like it will work reasonably with just a latch changeover.  I think I'm going shopping!

There are three 1976 Torinos that I know of with the 1972 hood scoop, all were welded up from two different hoods..   (just be ready for more work than just a latch change, that's all I'm saying)

I dont know about a 76 but there are three 1973 GTS's in South Carolina that have the 72 hood. The body line may not match exactly but it looks alot better than a flat hood.

It is a '73 that I am wanting to put the '72 hood on.  Even though the ftont ends are significantly different, the top line of the front header looks very much the same on both models.  Maybe I should look for a junk hood first just to trial fit to see how much of a fabrication deal I would be getting into. Thanks for the feedback.

FWIW, and not to beat a dead horse, there is a 1973 on ebay with the '72 Sport scoop.  I have a strange feeling it's not something someone had made since the rest of the car is in pretty sad shape.  All Guru's out there, is it possible Ford made a few 1973 hoods with the scoop?   The hood on the ebay car has the correct 1973-1976 proportions, but with the 1972 scoop.  If I had an account I'd ask if they could take a pic of the underside of the hood just to be sure..   That would explain the assumption that the 1972 Sport hood would fit the 1973.

Somoene who cares more about speed than looks generally wouldn't spend the $$ having the two hoods welded and blended so they look that straight on the surface, they'd just cut a hole and bolt on a cheap scoop (like I did when I put the 466 in almost 15 years ago, took me 12 years with that motor before I got a proper hood done....)

I agree. I usually try to blend both of them together. Speed + great looks = a great  street machine. We are not trying to set any records. Our GTS' s run mid to high 12's on pump gas.We drive our cars about 5000 miles a year! I also have the phone # of a guy that has three GTS's for sale, Q code cars. Two automatics and one 4 speed. Anyone interested can e-mail me at   brandon427fe@aol.com.

I talked to the guy that has the 73 on eBay. The hood came from the factory on his car. It also has a Ram Air type set up on it. The air cleaner looks like a shaker air cleaner exept that it seals off  at the hood scoop creating a ram air effect. He says he is the original  owner and it came equipped this way. He also says that he has owned several of these cars and has installed 72 hoods on them ,just lkike I do. FYI. lol
