74 Torino base 2-door with 302. We had this one for 14 years, July, 1975 to June, 1989. Rusted out with only 62k miles on it. Cry

73 Gran Torino wagon with 302. We had that one for several months in 1977. Photos are a bit dark. The car was actually dark metallic green. Was also rusting badly.

73 Ranchero GT with 400 gas hog. The light green was more seafoam than the earlier 70s mint shade. With the bright yellow stripe and medium green interior, it was a really nice color scheme.

75 Elite with 351M. Paint looks dark here, but it was actually Ginger Glow.

72 Mustang with 302.

Kewl old FORD'S ,the base model 74 reminds me alot of my 73 Base model before I swapped on the 74 Ranchero nose and doors from my uncle as the front crossmember rotted out and suspension was all over the place without the control arm stabilizer rod as it was moving back and forth. Also got the 351C 2v and C6 from it which later was changed over to 4 bbl with 600 cfm Carter AFB and Performer intake with a 292 duration Erson cam.I yanked out the 302 and swapped in the Cleveland till I blew the tranny and thanks to Bryan I finally know why it let go cause years before it let go I installed a B&M Shift Improver kit and thought maybe the TCI stall converter might have had something to do with it but Bryan's friend who is a Transmission specialist told him that those shift kits shorten the life of the tranny and sooner or later yoj will have trans problems and sure enough it did let go and after sitting for months with no money to fix and already got a 79 Cougar XR7 as a driver I yanked the Cleveland and scrapped the car like an idiot as it had perfect rust free doors and front clip.It also had a perfect dash and uncracked dashpad I got from the 74 Ranchero also and a rust free decklid.Hind sight is 20/20 and even if I parted it out could have gotten some money but was moving out of state and no place to store the car so I yanked the engine and Megashifter which I still have today and the shifter is now in my 72 GTS and the motor is in the garage waiting for a body to be transplanted into which i thought was going to be the 73 GranTorino formal till I couldnKt get a roof donor and found the back end was just to far gone even for a ProStreet version and not worth building. Thanks for the blast from the past as it duug up alot of found memories of Past Fords I have owned

Ahhh... I see the old New York plates on them and you all know what NY is known for right? Empire State building, Apples and RUST!!!

Thanks for the pics. They also reminded me of some of the cars my Dad bought while working at the local Ford dealer for over 20+ years.

That's a 1954 Star brand travel trailer, 35' x 8'. (There is one fairly similar to it in the movie Pink Cadillac.) My grandmother lived in that for 27 years. It was her security blanket. The only home that she and my grandfather ever owned outright and she would never part with it. About a year after she passed away, I sold it because it was just deteriorating too much. The family had wanted to get her a better trailer years earlier, but she would have none of it.

I will sort out some pics tomorrow and post up here. Got plenty of them from over the years. Smile

Will dig out some more car pics, too.

Okay, here are some more. These first two are of the first trailer that my grandparents owned, quite briefly. I really don't know what company made it. Quite an interesting design, though:

Here are three more of the 1954 Star. A year after my grandmother passed away, I agonized over whether or not to sell the trailer. I knew that I had done the right thing when, exactly two weeks after it was sold and moved, a big tree came down in a storm that would have crushed the end closest to the propane tanks.

More car photos coming in subsequent posts, several in each, rather than one big, long post. Big smile

Here, my mom's 1963 Galaxie can just be seen peeking out of the garage. It was medium blue with an extremely light blue painted top. Had the 352 and manual steering. In 1971 the oil leaked out of it and the engine seized up. Cry

This was my dad's 1964 Fairlane. It had a six cylinder. He sold it when he and my mom got married in 1966:

Here is my uncle Scott washing his 1962 Galaxie:

Here is my uncle Scott's driveway, and you can just make out his 1965 blue Galaxie on the left and 1962 Galaxie on the right:

Here, on the left is my uncle Scott's 1971 Mercury Monterey and on the right is my uncle Ronnie's 1973 LTD. Both cars had the 351 Cleveland 2 barrel:

Here are more of the 71 Merc, including 2 with my uncle Scott's 1968 Shasta travel trailer which has a set of Mopar 14" domed wheel covers on it from the late 50s. Shortly after those photos were taken, he lost one and so I gave him the set of wheel covers off my mom's 63 Galaxie after we had to get rid of it:

Here is our 1968 Custom 2 door sedan. It had the 302:

This was our 1977 Limited Edition Maverick. It had the straight six and was really lousy climbing hills. You practically had to get out and push. In retrospect, we should have bought a 72 Mustang Grande, green with white vinyl top and white interior and the 302, that was availabe at the same time:

Here are photos of my 73 Mustang hardtop. It had the 302, C4 auto trans, and manual drum brakes all the way around:

Here is a photo of the 73 Mustang and 73 Ranchero GT sitting on the front lawn together. This was taken in 1998 and both of them had under 29k miles original on them:

This was my 1978 Bronco. The engine was a 351 but which, if I remember correctly, a previous owner had bored out to 468 cid:

This is just a photo that I took one year at the Watkins Glen International Race Track, which was just 2 miles east of our house at the time. With very few exceptions, Ford (and Mercury) has been the official vehicles of my family, too:

I like the chrome around the headlights. I also had that on a 79 F250 with Explorer package that I had for a while (never got around to taking pictures of that one, unfortunately).

I've just never been a fan of the black around the headlights on 78-79 Ford trucks. It worked on the 57 Chevy cars, but nowhere near as well on the Ford trucks, in my opinion.

Been digging through photos today and thought I would post some more here.

98 Crown Vic P73....no anti-lock brakes, Spruce Green. The first two pics are from September of 1998 when it was new. The last three pics are from June of 2002. I had sold it to my mom. A college kid hit her head-on with a Subaru Impreza (which you can see sitting beside it, because they hauled both vehicles off to the same location). He had a cat in a carrier in the back seat and turned his head to look at it and drifted over into her lane. There was a guardrail beside her and she had nowhere to go to get out of the way. Thankfully, no serious injuries for either of them. The frame of the Vic was bent and the insurance company totalled it out:

As for what we had in the family as i was growing up;
1968 Fairlane 500 4dr
1972 Vega - First "second car", Mom's first car
1969 Camaro, Red with black top/interior, 6cylinder - Mom's next car and later Dad's work car
1972 Gran Torino formal roof
1965 Mustang coupe - Green with white lemans stripes, 289 hi-po (yes, really) with a 4 speed.  Sold it after 6 months becasue he could forsee losing his license with that car.  Lol.
1975 Granada - 4dr, 302.  First brand new car my dad bought
A couple 65/66 Mustang convertibles the he was going to restore but they built a new house instead.
1974 Chevy Impala wagon - Traded Granada in on it while we lived in Wyoming for 6 months in 1977-ish. This became moms car and Dad took over the Camaro when we came back to Michigan at the end of the summer.
1971 Dart Swinger - 2dr, 318, Auto, 8 3/4 rear end, Gold w/ black vinyl top.  Dad's car he bought from my Mom's folks who had purchased it new.  It was my Grandmothers car.
1979 Chrysler Cordoba - Dad's next car after selling the Swinger to me for MY first car.  This also came from my Grandparents, it also was my Grandmothers car. Of course it was loaded too.
1985 1/2 Ford Escort - Mom's first brand new car she bought herself.
1981 Chrysler Cordoba, Dad's next car also purhased from Grandparents and again, this was my Grandmothers car. Yup, this one was also loaded.
1989 Ford Thunderbird - Dad purchased new.  I actually took him to the dealer to pick it up.
1990 Ford Escort - Mom's second brand new car.
1991 Grand Am - Mom's next car after the Escort was totalled.
After I moved out and dad got cancer things were tight so mom took over the T-bird after the lease was up on the Grand Am.  Dad bought a 1985 Diplomat for a driver which didn't get driven much.
After dad passed, mom leased an Escort ZX2, took over the lease on my grandmothers 2001 Taurus after she passed.  Then it was a 2004 Mustang Anniversary Edition (Dark burgundy with the gold stripes/accents) which I put a Flowmaster cat back kit on it because she wanted it to sound cool. She almost bought that after the lease was up but due to certain circumstances turned it in and leased a Ford Escape and the a Ford Fusion which still had a year of lease left whe nshe passed last March.

Great stuff, guys! Thumbs Up Can't wait to see any pics you might get time to post.

Mike, I think one of my cousins had a Dodge Dart Swinger, green with a white top. I'll have to dig that photo out tomorrow. It was taken in October of 1976 during a family reunion that we hosted. The picture also shows the 1965 aqua Chevy Biscayne that was my grandmother's last car before she passed in 1973....my mom gave the car to another cousin. The picture also shows our mail carrier's mid 70s Bronco and a gold colored International that happened to be passing by.

I really dig those Cordobas....liked those and the Dodge Miradas right up until the end of production. One of my science teachers in high school had a black Cordoba that he really took great care of....as well as a black 1950 Chevy and a black 1928 Chevy.

Walt, I have really liked the 57-59 Plymouth Fury ever since 'Christine' came out in theaters 30 years ago. They may have been prone to rusting (just like our Torinos) but they were a very stylish and under-appreciated car for their time. They told about Jonathon Winters passing away....one of the first movies of his that comes to my mind is 'It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World'....that has been one of my favorite movies ever since I was a little kid and it features a couple of 1959 Fury taxi cabs near the end, as well as a ton of great cars throughout the movie.

I will also have to dig out a photo of another cousin's VW Kharmann Ghia and some others that come to mind. I also remember a photo for the classic Torino thread of a blue 70 or 71 Torino that was the first 'stop-motion' photo that I took when I was very young. Embarrassed I managed to get the front end of it as it was speeding by. LOL
