Not sure if the 72-76 guys have this. The split benchs do (at least my Elite did). The seat backs tend to fade over time, and the chrome edging tends to both yellow and crack.
I used some spray paint "Plastic adhesion promoter" and some Rustoleum "Satin" (meant for furniture) paint. I could have bought a can of the actual color, but, this was close enough in my mind. The chrome edging on the seat back was replaced using that plastic "door edge guard" that sells in your favorite parts store. $10 bought me 20 feet. It's a tad thinner, but looks REALLY good, especially compared to broken/yellow OEM pieces. Seems to stay on fine, as well. If you aren't going for 100% Original Restored Car, this is the way to go IMO. |

Looks good Paul.I suggested the chrome door edge to a member who needed to replace the chrome seat trim and knew it would be a tad thinner but as you said it looks better then the old broken or yellowed out trim.I did the Whole interior when I had my 79 Cougar XR7,I sprayed the complete dash, all the plastic or metal interior trim, seat backs, door panels and all to freshen up the interior. That was in 97 and had the car a few more years till I junked it cause of bad fmx transmission and my dad got me an 88 full size Bronco 4x4 5 speed with 5.0 for free so I put the Cougar to rest.Had alot of good memories with that car, parking by tthe lake when I first met me ex-wife cause she had 3 daughters at home.Few road trips too with the wife and kids, thank god for big cars like that but the 77-79 Cougars had both luxury and a Sporty look.I put the Magnums off my old 73 Torino on the Cougar when I got it.Had that same maroon color interior in mine

paul,Jeff was the one who suggested the edge moulding to me in a previous post about 2 months ago,I haven't gotten back to the seats,so I didn't get to try the trim yet.I refinished my seat trim with SEMS premotion adhesive/paint.came out wicked nice,I had an nos console cover that I painted at the same time, wanted it to match good.I should have left I original,It came out blotchy for some reason I was pissed!I'd like to find mint original chrome trim, but guess I'll use the edging as you did.It looks nicewanna sell your 78's trim?

Sometimes the console covers absorb paint at an incredible rate, and they come out blotchy. Which trim? the wide side 'decor' moldings?

Yeah, for obvious reasons, I don't really want to sell. However, everything has a price.
