Yuck. I really hope the alignment of my pushrods is somewhat ok.. It's not perfect, but close. There was a guy on the 460 forum with an overbuilt 545 with the same cam I'm running now.. He built it for his truck.. engine pulled like 500 hp @ 5000 and 600.. on the downward slope of the torque curve, from 2000 - 4000.. That'd be good enough for a reliable mid 12 second run with some traction, and be streetable enough to drive cross country if the owner so chose. lol. I want something both bullet proof, reliable, and relatively low maintenance. This right now can be my 'starter' engine. :-) I'll post a video once I get the exhaust leaks sorted out (stupid aluminum gaskets)

Traction is always the key.... :-)I will say that since I've gone the stroker route, I'll never go back... It's just easy, effortless power, I just need to be a little more realistic because if you think it might break, it probably will... (I chose the SCJA heads and the springs with those were close to their limits with the cam I'm running). I am looking towards the solid roller option next, it's just a $$$ thing....

So over the weekend I got a lot accomplished Tranny cooler mounted with hard line from the radiator to the cooler, save for 1.5" of hose (cooler has barb ends). Came out nice. Plug wires are sorted out and are run nicely (yes, this was a bigger deal than it sounds. ) AEM wideband is working (car idles around 13:1 A/F ratio) Fixed my exhaust leaks, either by welding up what was leaking, or permatex, in teh case of the collector gaskets. Timing is at 13 deg Electric fan controller works. Fans come on at 190, off at 180... car will idle with fans blowing full tilt at 178. Filled the tranny... no leaks.
Things left to do. I should probably pop the valve covers and check the rockers to see if they are still tight, etc. Oh yah.. drain the radiator and flush the whole thing.. The water has a lovely brown appearance.. I never drained the block when the car sat. It's really just button up some minor things, then I can actually drive it.. I did move it this past Saturday... 25 feet in the driveway.. with no brakes (unrelated story).. so I didn't try anything in the driveway, heh. For a shameless pic.. who knew that K&N filters fade in sunlight? |

In the last three days, I and a friend reassembled the engine, set the valves, installed the engine, trans, d/s loop, d/s, exhaust and detailed the tail lights, rear bumper filler, and the brake booster. Next is finishing the master cylinder, replumbing the oil and temp gauges, carb, radiator and fan, accessories, putting in the new carpet and scuff plates and NHRA legal belts then topping off all the fluids.... All this needs to go smoothly and be done before Friday.. Happy Happy, Joy Joy.

I got lost some how for 2 weeks. My wife reconnected me tonite.I think you got alot done this month.Well I stripped my interior out this week end and found alot
of rust in the floor boards. So I am interested in what you may have in that department. You may get mail from me soon for the tranny frame. My father gave me a C-6 that came out of a E-350 van with out over drive. So I think I'm all set there. My next move is to replace all the bushings.

Steve, take some pics of your floors, and we can talk.
Jim, Wow.. Granted, I'm down to two hours a night (I really need to clean the garage so I can get the car in there). I did rebend that fuel line tonight, and flushed the radiator... amazingly brown/yuck.. no more exhaust leak either. :-)

Video! I redid the fuel line today, and flushed the cooling system.. I love watching rusty antifreeze/water flow up out of my radiator. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8356832450949720452&hl=en And no, my car doesn't sound like a helicopter in person... I swear.. I can't explain that one.. must be the camera. :-? |
