It seems the cubic inch thing is what I am going to go after. After all bigger is better right?? I have a few items for swapping in the big motor but will be needing more so the 351cj motor will have to go and in it's place will be a 460 maybe a 514 stroker. Question; cylinder heads any good recomendations?? Iron or aluminum? Mostly street use and cruising and some drag racing any good ideas will be appreciated. Lets hear from the guys with the big iron!! Gary P.S. Good street cams too!! Edited by Torinogts73c - 22-August-2006 at 2:08PM |

I'm sure some of the guys on this board will have some good ideas but another place you might consider checking out is 460Ford.com. There are some very knowledgeable people over there. Good luck.

Agreed, and the ProjectBronco.com also has some good information.
But... If you get some good topics, post them up here as well so we have them for the future!

Well, a 545 with the Motorsports SCJ heads runs pretty well in these cars..
:-)
(of course folks have the Performer RPM, TFS street and Blue Thunder heads running nicely on strokers as well, and Pro-Comp is selling a decent AL head now as well, just as of yet unproven)
I like aluminum, these cars are heavy enough..

I'm running a Ford Motorsport 460 crate, has aluminum Cobra jet heads 850 CFM carb and 3" exhaust. Not quite as fast as Jims, but running 12 sec flat @ 114 MPH. Not to shabby for 4,050 lbs.

Cool ! Aluminum heads are on the list as weight is a prime concern , not to mention by the time and money you spend on old iron heads you could have a set of aluminum ones. Thanks Guys! |

You can't go wrong with the BBF really, just be ready for dismal fuel mileage.

Jim... I neglected to mention the F100 my old man had.. Started out as a 302.. the best we could get from it was 11-12 MPG.. put in a 351W (long story).. guess what? 10 MPG !!..
a good 460 bottom end, with the old top end from my Elite, mildly worked D3 heads with the Comp Cams 256 4x4 cam, and an Edelbrock 750 from my Elite.
13 MPG ;-). Go figure.

I had been told before that motor mounts for the Torino/460 was not available new. It was my understanding that you used old ones or found NOS on ebay or something. Is this true? If not, where can they be purchased? |

One side (the rubber mount, not the metal 'tower'), at least, 3 years ago, was still available from Ford new. the other is not. |

Gas Mileage? My CJ 351 dosen't understand that! Believe me that is the least of my concern. In fact my 460 Ranchero was actually better than the Torino with the 351! No this is all about H.P.!! Crites has a mount kit ready to go for about $130.00 Gary
