Received an email this morning from someone asking about body buck tags on 72 GTS.  I think that what we figured out the last time this issue came up was that some cars had them and some didn't.  What's the latest on this issue?  Thanks, Paul~

After doing a quick google search, it seems that Atlanta cars didn't have them? I'm pretty sure mine does not and it was an early Atlanta build.

There are 2 of them and they are hidden under the dash right up by the windshield and they are part of the body/firewall. They don't have all the info like the older cars used but just a partial VIN #
You can see them in this picture by the defroster ducting.

both of my rancheros have them and they are 74 and 79. They have the complete Vin # on them. also have a partial Vin# stamped on both sides under the carpet above the rockers.

Ian,

On my '76, those two tabs in front of the defroster vents have the consecutive assembly number of my car stamped into them as you said. My current car didn't have a body buck tag or it was removed. On my '76 S&H LE, the buck tag was on the upper surface of the firewall over by the passenger side hood hinge.

I THINK you car order the buck tags from Marti..... not sure if it's ALL models or certain ones. When I get a bit closer to having mine done, I'll look into getting a new one a bit deeper.

I have a 72 GTS. I've honestly never seen any anywhere except on the dash and I have had the car completely apart except drilling spot welds. The sticker on the door jam was long gone. I didn't look under the front windshield when I had that changed so some could be there. Lot's of date stamps on the frame but no vins.

My car has numbers like that on the frame in the same spot. However they are stamped into the frame, there is no tag like yours.

I thought there may have been numbers stamped under there and possibly some mistake so they welded this plate over them.

Every Torino/Ranchero I've scrapped had the tags under the windshield. Only a couple had the removable tags. I have never found any other numbers on any other body parts but will take a look at the 3 frames I have sitting. The only exception was Stripper's 250 engine had the complete vin number of my car on an engine boss. I posted a picture of it on my thread.

I can't find any tags anywhere on mine, and wouldn't know where to look for a tag/stamped numbers on the frame on a wagon. Built in Atlanta in November 1972.

You MAY find a VIN, or a partial VIN, under the carpet on the floor in the area between the seat and the rocker, where the frame is channeled under the floor.

I forgot to mention, my Oakville built cars had the tag near the firewall and the two tabs by the defroster ducts with partial VINs.
