I was recently under my car (1977 Cougar) for some maintenance and for the first time I noticed grease fittings on the driveshaft joints! I've never seen a car with fittings here, and not even the factory manuals talk about applying grease to these joints.

Do other people have grease fittings on their shafts, and if so, how often do you grease them? Is standard chassis grease okay to use?

yep, I assume you are talking about the u-joints?  just grease them when you grease the front end.

Thanks, guys. Any idea why the manuals don't mention this as a greaseable location?

Most likely the factory u-joints didn't have grease fittings and over the years someone changed your u-joints with an aftermarket u-joint that has grease fittings. -Rick-

not a factory thing on our cars.
but hit or miss as some cars/trucks do or don't have them from the factory.
