Removed all vac lines on car. This afternoon I removed the canister from
the inner fender. It is full of gas.Is there something wrong with the return line letting gas come through or from the carb some how.It should not be full of gas correct.

Should not be full of gas. Are we talking a few tablespoons, or FULL full?
Is this the vacuum can or the charcoal canister?

probably the control valve for the canister has failed and caused the vacuum source to draw fuel into the canister... ?

or the hoses were hooked up incorrectly the whole time anyway?

I used a small engine / lawn mower type fuel filter on my unused vent hose to keep out water, dirt, spiders & whatever from getting into the system & causing issues. the filter is on top of the tank & has a length of hose to drape down somewhere kinda secure
or maybe tie the tank vent into the air cleaner housing with the float bowl vent if you have anything like that goin on?

I just wouldn't leave the tube open down there on the frame

^^^ that's a good idea max, although i've never seen spiders in an open vent hose, i figured they don't like gas fumes LOL

Maybe the vent line sucked gas when the tank was overfull or vent sucked up gas while car was sloshing fuel?

was thinking on the lines of a check value let air in nothing out.Fuel filter sounds like an idea.Have to wait until I get it running again to see whats up.I do know that if you top off newer cars they will suck the gas into the system and destroy it.Cost a neighbor 1000 to fix.
