Hey all.......So I would like to install a more modern looking instrument panel in my 71 Torino. But I have a few questions....first what is that tape looking stuff on the back of the instrument cluster? And what does it do? Also it would seem like it would be kind of a pain in the ass to put after market gauges in because it looks like the only gauge thats plug and play is the speedo? any thoughts...thanks.

the tape looking thing is a printed circuit board, it's basically your wires to the gauges and lights

Yeah I looked around a bit and found that out....but how would you incorporate that if you wanted to put a retro gauge cluster in?

Well, you wouldn't. You would set up a harness for all your gauges and tap into the appropriate wires that would have fed the printed circuit.

probably the trickiest part will be the fuel gauge you need the proper resistance range to match the fuel sender in the tank

i'm not sure exactly how much after market you're looking for ? you might check out a co. called dakota digital, they can custom fit their gauge unit to your dash cluster
