Back in the day, our city cop cars were all 4 door 74-76 Torinos and they were all equipped with extra tall front bumper guards (or push bars or overide bars, whatever) that were about half as tall as the grill and fit exactly where the front bumper guards did. I remember one day having my S&H LE parked next to a detectives car (unmarked) that had the deluxe bumpers with those tall front guards (which also had the vertical black rubber pads like mine except longer) and I wondered how to get a set for mine.
Well it never happened back then but I found myself reliving that moment this past weekend and thought I'd ask the knowledgeable group of Police Torino guys here on the forum if they remember them and ask if anyone had a set or where to find them. I wish I had had a camera (or a cell phone back then, LOL) so I could have snapped a picture of those tall boys!

Anyone??? Info or pictures??

I believe that they are called "front push bumper guards". I had done a search for the ones that were equipped on a gran torino, but i could not find any.
The push guards in the picture above appear to be similar to the push guards that were installed on some 1967 through 1970 (and probably other years also) ford f-100, f-150, f-250 and f-350's from the factory.
Below is a picture of these push guards.
This f-100 is being parted out right now and he is selling the parts off of it.

There is also another seller selling these same type of F-Series bumper guards.

The push guards in this next picture of the '77 through '79 ltd II, appear to be similar to the push guards that you described as coming up to half of the front grill. They also appear to be connected to the extreme front crossmember (the crossmember that the front strut rods are connected to).

Dave,

I don't know if they had the lower frame reinforcements or not... I didn't crouch down and look at them from the lower angle.

Thanks guys for the pics..... now to find those hen's teeth!
