Hey guys quick question.

I'm looking for a replacement front fender for my 72 ranchero gt. I found a few cars at ctc auto ranch, and I'm curious about compatibility.

I found a 74 torino, and a 74 ranchero and they both have the front drivers side fender. Even though the grille looks different, are they compatible on the torino? How bout the ranchero?

Also, I was on macs auto parts and they have a fender listed, but they are calling it a skin, but it looks like a whole fender. It also says something about not covering the sail panel. Here's the link
http://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_fairlane_torino/full-quarter-panel-skin-right-torino-1972-1976.html?crosssell=Homepage_Featured_Category_Body+Parts++%0D%0A#tabs-container

Is this a whole "fender" as in the exterior part, or are these fenders like newer cars where there's a frame underneath and the skin has to be welded on.

That's a good deal on one since I can't find one in good shape.

Also, what's the sail panel?

Sorry for asking stupid questions, I'm just a bit confused.

No, that will not fit your front fender. That part is for a rear quarter panel of a 1972 through 1976 Torino, it is not a front fender part. I have posted a picture below of the part that you are referring to.

the sail panel is the part on the inside of the car it's like a headliner "extension" on the "C" pillar
torino and ranchero are the same from the back of the doors forward, but 72's are unique to their style of front bumper/grill 73-76 are 73-76 for fenders and hoods, so to answer your question you need a 72 torino/ranchero fender!

Looks like that's a squire fender as it has holes for the wood trim panels. I can just weld some pieces of steel on the backside and fill in the gap with body filler :-)

Nice find guys thanks a ton!!! Mines banged up good right behind the headlight bezel. Its also causing the hood to not open right

Isn't a 72 fender specific to because they have the valance panel and the 73-up do not.
So the bottom of the fender is shaped different.

That's how I've always been able to tell the 72 Montego fenders from the 73-up.

I've always considered the sail panel the section that goes from the quarter onto the roof.

the 72 Torino fender extension is also different from the 73 so the whole front end of the fender is different

yup that's the sail panel both exterior & interior, because it generally looks like a sail

The first foot of the fender is 1972 specific, after that, it is identical to the 1973-1976.

True, although I have encountered later ones without that extra brace. May be early aftermarket or mis-stamped Ford units.
