When I saw the title, I figured you were talking about the 260 or earlier SBF's, LOL.

Who "forgot" the Cleveland? You want a forgotten ford V8, look at the old Y-blocks or the MEL engines. THOSE are obscure.

The 351's all came out after the old FE 352 was already obscure. Ford chose to name those 351's to not confuse people with the 352, even though they all displace exactly 352 cubic inches.

My Ranchero is going to receive a stroked 302, .060 over and end up at 352 CI. Thus with Cleveland heads I will call it a 351, and my tags say that already. Wink

The FEs aren't obscure, they're obsolete. Not the same thing. Most people have heard of the 390, 427, 428 ford V-8s, but 239, 256, 272, 292, 312? 383, 410, 430, 462? Forget about it? Already did.

Obscure they were, in 1969. Now the only FE engine people are interested in is the 427, for the Cobra people.

I myself would love to have a 427, the Cammer, the engine so bad NASCAR wouldn't allow it to race against the Chrysler 426 Hemi. I saw a real SOHC head at my first machine shop in 1980, and later I bought the shop manual for the Cammer just to see more of it. That was a trick hemi of the 60's, with gorgeous valve covers.

I also saw an original 427 SOHC engine on an engine stand in the bed of a F250 with a camper shell protecting it. It was back in the mid 80's at Gainesville raceway(Gatornationals) car show/swap meet. The man was selling it, price was $15K back then.

I liked the 406 ford or 410 merc in 62 then they were gone. Trouble with ford they could not make up their minds.

that 410 merc must have had a good bore to stroke ratio, had a buddy who built one up for a 66 fairlane. Had a healthy 650+ lift solid cam in it and that thing would rev to 7500 like a 2 stroke. crazy amounts of power with the med riser heads he had. Always wanted to do a warmed up fe in a 66-69 falcon, maybe some day.

In my non prof opinion the stroked 410 had more torque than the bored 406. In 57 merc had a 430 that was crazy fast
