hey guys, i am hoping to buy a bronco for a mud toy for rednecks with paychecks....and the one im interested in has a 300i6 5 speed manual tranny 4x4.....if i got it, i would want to swap to a 351w...what would i need? is it just a clean out n' in swap? obviously motor mounts and maybe tranny mounts might be different....but what would i have to change on the motor? fly wheel? im not that experienced in this type of swap. probably not the place to post about a bronco, but i thought you guys could help. thanks.

Bell is the same. Flywheels are not (but they WILL bolt on) 351 is 28 oz. external balance, 300 is internally balanced. 351 also uses a flywheel with a 11' clutch as opposed to a 10 or 10.5 for the 300.
Tranny mount doesn't change if you use the same trans, motor mounts will have to change, and I think that the mount perches are different... front accessories are going to need work, new brackets at minimum. All that aside, these are easy trucks to work on, and parts interchange with F150 for the same era. Have fun!

Best bet is a clutch kit (flywheel, disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bearing) for a 351 with that trans

Just throwing this out there. Why not get one that already has a 351W? They are in abundance out there.
If you're still gonna pursue it, find a F150 or Bronco with 351W that you can pull and use. It will have everything you need to transplant. Edited by n2fordwagons - 21-November-2014 at 12:48AM |

i want this one because it has a 6 inch lift, 35in superswampers, another new set of mud grips, alot of new parts, a fastback rag top for the back (plus hard shell), and it runs and drives....800 bucks!.....i wont know until like a week before i could get it.....and if i can find a parts one with a 351, i would use it....but i was told the 300 i6 has more torque than a 302? so i might leave it in for a while until i can find a 351, or just wait til i find a parts one with a manual tranny.

Ah. I see. That sounds like a great deal. Yes, the 300 I6 is a workhorse. If it's running good, there's no immediate need to replace it.
I'd love to get a ragtop for our Bronco. We've got a '96 with a 351W.

You'll love that 300. Great engines that will always run if they have water, fuel, spark and oil.

FORD 300 6=8 Cast Aluminum "STREET & s\Strip" Intake Manifold Price: $319.00 Shipping Weight: 18.00 pounds Code: 43-4502 With your choice of: 2 Brl Carb Adaptor 4 Brl Carb Adaptor Redline TBI Adaptor Howell TBI Adaptor Fittment: All Ford 240/300 cid. Description: Our Ram Flow Manifold is a single 2 or 4 brl. carb design, making it Clifford's most versatile manifold. It has an open plenum, allowing the user to mate a 2 barrel, 4 barrel or fuel injection system by changing carb adaptor. Weber 38/38 use 08-1013 Holley 390/or 500 Edelbrock carb , use 08-1014. Click on the adaptor of choice when ordering online. This manifold is made of cast aluminum and is a street or competition style for performance. The true beauty of this manifold is that it works exceptionally well on the street, thanks to our water heated passage along the bottom of the manifold. No matter where in the world the user is located, the water heated passage is a must for daily street use. By using a water/coolant mix to heat the manifold, we can atomize the fuel without boiling it, creating a consistant running engine. This manifold requires a minimum of 350 cfm, and will not bolt onto your engine with the factory cast iron exhaust manifolds. Please do not plug the water jackets and start your engine. Aluminum melts at 450 degree's. *Do not bolt any stock carb to this intake. It has oversized runners and will need an upgraded 2 or 4 brl carb. Edited by dave302 - 21-November-2014 at 2:09PM |

back in the day they used to cut a cylinder off each Cleveland head & weld them back together as a 6-pop
there's a kinda weird 'underground' for aftermarket high perf 4 & 6 parts, heads, blocks, not sure what's out there for the Ford 300? but it's not from the usual sources, definitely off the beaten path
