Greetings all, I lucked out and was able to buy the car above. I paid 1100 for it. It's been in his heated garage since those pics were taken 12 years ago. In pieces, one of those deals lol. Solid car no rust in floots or trunk. Both quarters need a little work behind wheel very minor. Cowl needs minor work, doors need s couple 2X2 inch patches. But really solid overall. Came with trim from 2 cars. Its all pretty good including the wheel mouldings. I'm debating the original metallic dark blue or grabber blue or 71 grabber green. What do you guys think? Its a 400 bench seat car with air.

WELCOME to the Family!

$1100... HOLY sh*t!!! WHAT A DEAL!

$700 to do a new Vinyl top?
Decent deal! Just make sure they know what they are doing!!
HIDDEN work they may not be anticipating!
1. Rear interior panels have to come out to remove the side molding pieces(they are bolted at the front and rear)
2. Entire A-Pillar interior and exterior(over the doors) trim/seals/moldings have to come off. This is NO SMALL FEAT! To get the interior A-Pillar piece off requires you take off the Dash Pad(to avoid breaking the ends that tuck under the dash pad). The exterior trim and door seals are a 3pc system (1. rubber seal is screwed on/in to a black metal track 2. the black metal track is then screwed onto the body/THROUGH the chrome trim piece 3. the Chrome trim is screwed to the body itself, All 2 of these need to be sealed when re-installed AFTER the vinyl is wrapped around the roof seam)
3. Moldings/trim around the rear side windows have to come off(Same type of issues as the A-Pillar), They are overlapped and interlocked by the front trim/moldings as described in the previous step.
4. Front windshield and rear window trim has to come off (make sure your shop knows how to do this!)

After they get all that off, THEN the old vinyl comes off.
Make sure they PROPERLY treat your roof while it is exposed with some GOOD paint or other rust prevention, bedliner type of treatment to prevent future rust/rot through!

Again welcome and PLEASE feel free to ask questions!
MANY shops "THINK" they know what they are doing and they will tell you we here don't know what we are doing.
STAY AWAY from those shops!! WE have pulled these cars apart and put them back together so many times we can walk you through EVERY procedure STEP-BY-STEP!
Many shops today have NO CLUE how to even get the trim off these old cars without damaging it!!

No lol, the pic above is the car 11 years ago right before it was parked in his heated garage and he started frame off resto. He got it completely tore apart but thats it. So the car is a basketcase lol. But he was neat and labeled everything. As for the roof quote, no thats to install a completely different roof. It came with the car, the one on it is trash. He has done over 50 mustang coupe to fastback conversions so he knows what he's doing there.

Rest of the car is like a cali car, minimal rust, flawless undercarriage and trunk. Nees a little work here and there tho on the body panels. Will have him install new metal patches then quote paint from several places after.

Biggest decision is the motor, freshen it up and leave it stock or really beef it up. Interior is blue, thats going black lol.

yeah $700 is a good deal for doing the roof sheet metal.

Depending on what you are looking to do with it... Leave it as a non-vinyl and it will be ALOT easier but going with vinyl, you have a lot of work to do and HAVE to put it together in correct order.
