Im running a decent 351w in my 72 with stock hears and an fmx trans. The car will do great rolling burnouts but leaves the line like a pig. It seems like there aren't very many options for torque converters out there for that fmx. Has anyone had any luck?

you won't find much / if anything at all listed in sale ads but a decent converter can be built by just about any outfit that isn't stuck in an assembly line mentality

could be your rear gear too, any idea what it is?

a 2.5 or 2.75 rear isn't gonna impress off the line

3.25 or 3.50 will put a smile on your face. Smile
You can get FMX convertors, but shift kits, etc., not so much. FMX is kinda the unloved ford transmission.

still basic principals apply. remove the 'puck' from the VB, source good frictions & steels from the AOD section, cut a new snap-ring groove to add a clutch if there's room or the AOD clutches may be thinner so they'll fit more w/o moving the snap-ring. lighten or remove the accumulator springs, lighten or spring the governor, enlarge / chamfer exhaust ports, drill drums, widest possible band, shim the pump regulator spring... and it goes on

you can build a snotlocker FMX Wink

TCI makes a decent convertor, and you can get a nice shift kit too by transgo

i had a fmx built up for my 73, it was tough, and shifted nice

I got a Boss Hog converter in my FMX, night and day difference at the light. I couldn't idle the engine with the old one, now I'm fighting for traction.

I have two FMX trannys that shifted awesome stock. I switched to a C4 because of cheaper parts and lighter weight. Monster transmissions has a stall converter for FMX trannys. Put a stall in it and you will absolutely love it.
