Not really, the trim behind the door is right next to the hanging vinyl cover which runs under the rear window. If you stuck a speaker there, you'd lose a lot of access to that precious rear storage area. The speakers at the back of my door panels point directly behind the seats. I had them that way first in my Gran Torino, that was easier than running new wiring to the back parcel shelf, which never had speakers there in that car. I like the regular door panels, but the Sport versions are nice too. |

I suppose I should move this to the Project section, but not tonight.
Yes I am still around. Well, the Ranchero has been down since Friday I think. On purpose. We got some money back from taxes and I spent the part I got to spend on what I wanted on gauges, a pertronix ignition system, and some misc. Not the best gauges, but I have heard good things from the reviews. Equus. And I could afford electrical sending unit versions with these. I just spent the last of my money on a tachometer to match the other gauges I got last week. So I will have all aftermarket. And no more mechanical sending units. Got the tach mounted in the dash tonight, now I need to work on the lighting harness. And I have to mount two lights for turn signals since the factory tach had those included. And then I need to get a light for the high beam indicator, which is another light that the factory tach had included. I had wanted to keep the factory tach, but using it with the Pertronix may not have been very simple so I am going the easy route. Plus now all the gauges match. Oh, 5 gauges besides the speedo and tach. Gas, Voltage, Oil Pressure, Water Pressure, and Vacuum. I didn't want a clock and just couldn't come up with anything else that was practical for the car. Maybe a trans fluid temp gauge, but at least for now I feel the vacuum is more useful. Hoping to have the dash done in a day or two. I was stupid and undid the wiring I had done previously without taking notes, so I have to go back and trace out the wiring again. I had to change colors, so I need to refigure out which goes where. My plan is to only do one change at a time in case I run into a problem so I can know where to look, so I need to get the dash reinstalled and make sure that all works before doing the Pertronix. I got the original version, since I have heard lots of bad about the second version, and I don't need the extras that the latest version has. Plus I got a Flamethrower (Pertronix) coil that is recommended by them. Funny, Pertronix recommending a Pertronix part. So gauges, then coil, then get rid of the points. After that is cooling time. Get the Lincoln MKVIII fan on, which I got a kit with a sensor to turn it on and off at a programmable temp. Then change to the 3G alternator. Oh, I need to install the new new thermostat and seal up the water part of the cooling system before I try to start the car. Yes, the way things are going I am worried I might forget that part. It is removed since I had to remove the mechanical sending unit for the old water temp gauge to remove the dash cluster, and it needed replaced so I wanted to only lose coolant one more time. Biggest reason I wanted electrical gauges. Well, that and worrying about the oil line leaking. I am going to put all the relays into a box I found at Goodwill (and I will have a few more to add, one for the ignition and at least one probably two for the electric fan)and I have about a day's worth of electrical type stuff in the interior and then hopefully I am more or less done for a while. Problem is with everything going on and my health I am not doing more than a couple of hours a day so far, and that is sitting at the kitchen table for the most part working on fitting all the gauges to the dash. It's already getting darn hot here. :(" title="Angry" class="smiley"> I know I need to take pictures, but stopping for anything pretty much kills my momentum right now. I will take some of the dash before I install it. Thanks, Russ |
