85 mustang should be a T5, make sure it's a V8 trans, not a 4 cylinder one. Look at the bearing ends to see if it is a "world-class" T5 (85 was mustang's first year with WC version and some early production units may not be WC.
Trans tunnel will need a bit of love, especially in the bellhousing area.
V8 swaps were tight in the tunnel even using mustang II trans parts and those were a small flywheel/bellhousing. Expect to have to flatten the lip on the floor-to-cow- panel seam, a rubber mallet will be your friend.
Overall, no major hurdles if you are patient and thorough.

It had an aod in it which I removed. The prev. owner used a hammer and torch t0 widen the tunnel.I have another tunnel. He also trashed the heater box which was different on the cruz. wagon. Thanks for the info on trans.Just don't know if his price is fair or what.As I turn 70 this might be a pipe dream

That is reasonable if it is a World Class unit.

Much better bearings, better gears, higher torque rating.

About halfway down this page is a section on the T5
http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Transmission_identification

There is a bearing visible below  the input shaft that is a good visible clue on an unmolested trans:
