Hi Gang,

I've been following your work and fun on the facebook page for this group and am taking Carl up on his invitation to register and participate over here.

I'm only a wannabe for the time being.  Growing up we had a '72 Gran Torino Station Wagon as the family truckster.  It was a beautiful car, silver with the awesome grill they only had in '72.

Around 1980, it was pretty well rusted out and my Dad replaced it with a '76 Torino Wagon.  Brown, not as pretty, but that was the car I learned to drive in.  It had a great 351 motor and there was nothing like hitting it from around 52mph to pass someone.  It would drop down into second gear and take off like a rocket.

Aside from that it was a really practical car that could carry the entire family of 5 and all our luggage.  It could bring a sheet of 4x8 plywood home from the store, or even bigger stuff if you let it hang out the back window.  When we were little, we loved sitting in the 'way-back' facing backward.

I don't know if I'll have one again someday, but I love seeing all of yours.  It's great all the loving work you put into these great cars to keep them on the road.

Best Regards,

Eric

Welcome. I think I've seen photos of at least one of those wagons your family owned. I might've shared them in the Vintage Photo Thread. Hope you can get back in a wagon! There's a nice silver '76 on Craigslist, but it's a bit far from you.

Welcome Eric. We, too, had a '72 Gran Torino wagon growing up. It was a brown Squire and I learned to drive in it. Dreamed about that car for years after my Dad sold it. A few years ago, my fiancé saw an identical one for sale on Craigslist about 2 hours away. Bought it a few days later. You will enjoy this site and the family we have here!
