I know this topic has appeared in the past (2011/2010), but after trawling for the details seems as though the actual schematic for the vacuum lines doesn't exist??
The yellow line which runs from the dash control unit to the centre of the car vacuum unit has a T which then changes to a dirty white/light grey and then disappears into the heater box, it seems that end is my leak on that line, if l plug the yellow line and apply vacuum, both motors either side of the floor heater outlets operate correctly from the heater control. The passengers side flap motor is being replaced with a new unit, so that should fix the three inside units ( flap is shut - vacuum opens it ), but the other (two ??), outside of the car do what????? and how do l get to them?... remove the box outside on the passengers side where the A/C is housed? ..... I have no idea where/what/how...sorry. A hand sketch showing colors and what function it/they perform/s would probably help a lot of folk out there doing exactly the same as l am. here is what l have so far. FROM THE HEATER/AIR CONDIT CONTROL UNIT .....BLACK.... WHITE.....GREEN......... YELLOW RED ......GREY ..... BLUE ..... DK BLUE .......... YELLOW runs from the control unit to the first vacuum unit ( LHS of heater outlet ) with a T GREY then to a joiner and into another BLACK then into the inside heater box BLUE runs from the control unit to the second vacuum unit ( just right of the heater outlet) then RED runs from the side of this vacuum unit back to the heater control. WHITE runs from the heater control all the way across to the vacuum unit on the passenger edge of the dashboard and opens the flap. BLACK- seems to run from the heater control to the outside A/C box GREEN-don't know DARK BLUE - don't know BIG BLACK- runs to the top row of the heater control unit- probably supply vacuum. Any ideas. cheers David. just a little south west from you. |

Thanks for that schematic, yes its a march 72, l am pretty sure that the heater control has an 8 pin connector on it, l couldn't read the colors on that schematic, so l have colored it up, the colors shown are how it appears on my car, some of the areas shown lam not able to currently see, so l will assume that these are correct as shown.
now for a pic upload it it works. file size is 183 kb, so its well within the 400 max. |

OK,l found my green vacuum line, it is cut with a joiner and turns to small black out thru the firewall grommet with the bigger black main vacuum line.
Unfortunately, it seems that someone got to it before me, the green line is just hanging down over the transmission with a wood screw plugging it up. Q - what function does this green vacuum line perform and what should it be connected to? see attached pic below:- light blue sanding dust everywhere. cheers David.

Is this the missing piece at the end of the green vacuum line ?
If so,lonely need to find where and what the grey line into the heater box is and does (inside of car). Thanks David.

Yes, that black vacuum hose with the green stripe that comes out of the firewall, connects to the heater control valve in the picture above.

Is this something like what is hidden within the heater box, this one is corvette for illustration purposes only.
IF SO, I think l am down to one last open unit. If this is hidden inside the heater box, how the **** do l get it out? Thanks David.

Your welcome. No you do not have to remove the whole dash in order to remove the heater core case. Just remove the glovebox liner, and then you can gain access to
the heater core case. It should have around 10 to 12 screws around the perimeter of the heater core case. Remove the
center floor vent and separate the front of the heater core case from the back. If you want to remove the heater core, you will have to remove a
small screw between the outlet and inlet tubes. Remove it and you should be able
to remove the core.
You also do not have to remove the top dash pad, but if you do remove it, you might be able to get a better view and better access to the heater core case.

with a little help from dave302 on another posting l can now get to the end of my problems, green line operates the hot water on off to the heater core, currently missing in my car, as is the vacuum canister ( coffee can )big black vacuum line.
The grey line which runs to the by-pass will be todays fix. then hopefully l can get the dash all back together and get my radio in and working and finish off the body prep for repainting. Yep, not much to do between work days. Hmmmm.

you were right, it is easy to remove, the dash is already lf off, far easier that way.
The core as l thought is reasonably new, the vacuum actuator didn't work, but after a little coercion and spray grease, it lives and now does what it should. Too easy. thank you. Anyone following this has an easy reference for their car.

I am impressed, all of the actuators that were in the car except for one, now work perfectly, sealed the box back up with a gasket made of (adhesive one side) squishable foam, as well as the actuator doors, that 43 year old foam just fell off as brown dust.
Thank you everyone for your assistance, again another great job of the many minds. Now to work on the fan, it was working last week, now it seems quiet and slow instead of a little noisy and fast !!! The switch seems to make no difference at all to the speed. David.

one last question on the hot water to heater line, does the vacuum actuator/stop valve attach to the in or out line, left or right when looking at the car from the front.
Thanks David

I have heard that it does not really make any difference if you install it in the "left" (in) or "right" (out/return) side, because it will control the flow of coolant/water on either side that you install it on.
But most people prefer to install it on the "right" (out/return) line because it will give you better access to the transmission fluid dipstick.

All except for the A/c, it works as it should and all vents do their thing when requested.
The A/C low pressure line is over near the radiator ( red cap) on the drivers side?... or the black cap just in front of the A/C condenser box on the passengers side? cheers David.
