Just got my 1971 Ford Torino 500 back from the body shop.  Paint looks great.  They took the scoop off and I'm ready to put it back on.  Should there be a gasket or rubber seal between the scoop and the hood ? I know it doesn't have to seal, just wondering protecting the paint.  I looked in my shop manual (PDF version) and couldn't find anything.

no, no gasket.  just be careful how much you tighten the nuts.  it will warp the scoop.

Does this apply to the '72s as well?  I just reinstalled mine after I detailed today.  I just used a nut driver but you have me worried I put them too tight.

mine had warps in it,when i got it. i straighten them out before painting, then carefully snugged down the front ones so it didn't rewarp, i used stainless poly lock nuts so they would stay where i set them at. (with a nut driver)
