Hi, I have recently buy a 1970 Ford Torino with a stock 302. The problem I have is that in the four cylinders of the left i have no Spark. I have test the wires with a tachometer and they don´t have any voltage. Don´t know what it could be. Thank you for uour replies!

You only get spark in the cylinders on the right? Check for spark at your distributor cap, look inside and see if the contacts are corroded. Weird that it's only one side.

I believe you may have tested the wires for resistance with an ohm meter? I'm guessing that you may have a faulty set of spark plug wires. First thing I would do is remove a spark plug wire and hold it close to an engine ground while cranking the engine over. if you see spark jump to ground you have spark on the wire.if no spark, try spraying the wire with WD40 and rechecking for spark again,if spark is present after spraying with WD40, your plug wires are faulty.

Just couriouse 75granman how does spraying them with wd40 do?? I have never heard this test....... Make sure wires are all the way pushed on to the plugs. I've had some that feel like they are pushed on but they are not on.

have a neighbor that you don't like, hold onto the end of the wire while cranking the engine, if he jumps and starts cussing, you have spark!
sounds like bad plug wires, but all 4 on the same side??? check the cap too, that is strange!!! |

Today I am going to open the distributor to check inside...
I don´t know how to check the resistance, I check it with a manual tachometer, put in eache wire in the tach... the four wires on the pilot side didn´t make any signal. |

How could it be all on one side? I could kinda see if half of the cap was not touching the rotor, but the firing order is relatively random (1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8-?) so it would have to be skipping specific ones to have one half of the engine not firing.
I agree with some of the above that it is more likely the wires (but why on one side?) or in fact they are all firing but the author is not reading the meter right.

Is the car actually running? With four cylinders out, it should not be running.

Well yesterday I check every wire with a timing light and all of them had spark. Probably the tachometer I used was bad.
The problem I have is that the car starts and idles right, but runs rough. It starts doing this few days ago, I have run well with the car until last week. Can it be the condenser or the points? I have no touch the distributor, so I supose the timing is good. |

possible jumped timing chain. The original plastic style cam gears would start to fall apart allowing the chain to jump. check timing chain play and check the cam timing first.

Start with the basics. Check cap and rotor, points and condenser, plugs and wires. Check the ground wire and battery terminals for corrosion and good contact.
