really!! i'd think it would be better if the orig. condenser was faulty but the other condensers were worse?! i'm thinking if messing with the ignition caused a change, the problem mat be in the electrical (or part of it) try jumping a wire from the battery + to the coil + (full 12 volts) see if that works (problem may be in the coil or resister wire) i say this because a guy i work with had a very similar issue with one of his 65 mustangs ( it worked BTW)
what points gap are you running? .018?

Sounds like you're sorting it out. One thing, seeing That you have addressed the points, plugs, cond. etc, is the vac. adv. a worn breaker plate assy. (the thing your points mount to) will cause sputtering and such, also a leaking diaphragm too. Do you have a hand operated vac. pump?

I'm going to have to check the points gap but the plugs were all gapped before I put them in by me, & the vacuum is on point, no issues there. I think I need to take a good look at distributor & points. I also think there may be a problem with the coil also

check this thread, read it thoroughly and it will help you verify everything is working correct...
Points gap is also outlined in the second post too.

UPDATE: Fuel tank, filler tube, lock rings/gaskets, new sending unit & additional in line fuel filter have been installed. Replaced points & condenser with no real improvements. Still having the same under power issues & getting the sluggish response with sputtering & popping. Not sure what else there is to throw at this thing. Next up is a new coil but not sure if it going to make a bit of difference. Any one have any other ideas.

have you checked the voltage to the coil? tried the jumper wire to the coil? with the points set at the proper gap...and the vacuum hose(s) disconnected from the distributor advance... check the timing (with a timing light) what is the timing at?

Update: pulled off the carb, went through it & cleaned it completely. Got everything hooked up & it's on the road & running well. Trans is my next hurtle as somewhere from the test drive to the drive way reverse disappeared. But things are heading in the right direction.
