I just got my dads old 1972 Ford Ranchero GT, it has a 351c 2 barrel with a FMX trans, it has been sitting for the last 4 years & only started every couple months but not driven. We replaced the plugs, cap & rotor, fuel pump & accelerator pump diaphram. It runs at idle really well but when put in gear it is bogging down, surging, sputtering & popping. I thought it may have been bad fuel but I put 10 gal of premium in with some fuel system treatment. The other day i took it around the block to see if anything we did helped & it started over heating also. Looking for any advice or thoughts on what could be the issue. Thanks for having me here. Welcome to the forum! Look for a possible stuck accelerator pump or a faulty diaphragm. Look down the carb venturi's while pressing on the accelerator pump diaphragm shaft. you should see a good squirt of gas in the carb throttle bores. when you have some time post up some pictures of your car.

Thanks, I have replaced accel pump diaph, plugs, wires, cap & rotor, fuel pump, heater hoses, T-stat, lower rad hose. Points were good, found a ton of crap in the fuel filter so I am replacing that next as well as draining, removing & cleaning the tank. Here's a couple of pics

Thanks a bunch everyone, I for some reason really dig this bastard of a car even though it has been fighting me tooth & nail to get on the road. It won't be long though. Fuel tank is pulled & sending unit is looking a bit rough, float is non existent & screen is in dire need of replacing so that's my hurdle right now, but I am optimistic. Also really contemplating rebuilding the carb but I'm a bit nervous about screwing that up.
