Hi everyone,

I just picked up a '72 Gran Torino with a 400 last Saturday. Motor and transmission seem solid, though the interior and body have a ways to go.

I've been looking for a classic American project car for about eight years. I went back and forth between early 70's Mustangs, entertained the idea of picking up a similar year Dart, and wasn't excited enough about the Ranchero to commit to doing a long build on one. I come from a predominantly Ford background, and didn't really want a Chevy anything either. After a lot of back and forth and poking around I, more or less, fell in love with the lines of the '72 Gran Torino.

So hello! I'm looking forward to leveraging this community to help me get through this build!

Edit(s): Re-uploaded the images so they actually show up, and I'm in Albany Oregon. Probably good info to include on the intro post...

My plans are, currently, to update the car and make it a good looking cruiser that has enough punch to surprise people. I'm not trying to make a full blow drag car out of it, but ~400HP and ~500Ft/Lbs would be fine by me. From the light research I've done it seems like those are achievable goals for the Ford 400's.

That's all long term, really right now I just want the car rust and leak free! Smile

Thanks for all the welcomes everyone!

The orange is the original color as far as I am aware, though the nose has some red on it and the drivers side door was yellow at one point.

The first area I'm addressing is suspension. The original shocks were still on it, those got replaced day 1 with a set of KYB's all the way around. Looking at ordering a PST Polygraphite performance front end kit next week. I'll have to poke around the forums and find the right place to put a build log.
