IF I can manage to buy one of these in the future, is there any real difference in capabilities at the same ton rating?
This is for just hobbyist working on my own car stuff, mainly control arm bushings,maybe rear axle bearings, stuff like that.

there probably are those that have opinions either way, pros and cons, but for what you are asking i say probably not much difference. i have one of the 6' tall harbor freight ones 12 ton i think? and it works fine for this kind of stuff.
