Does the c4 trans come apart from the bell housing? If it does anybody have a bell housing for a 302. looks like this might be smaller than the aod an be a better fit.

Hello Bob.

The FMX is it's own deal, no interchange with anything else.

Some c4 bellhousings are for case fill and some are for pan fill. Some are for 157 tooth flex plates and others are for 164 tooth flex plates.

The 351W, 351C, 302 and most 289 have the same 6 bolt bell housing. The Case fill C4 runs a 157 tooth flexplate and the pan fill big case C4 runs 164 tooth.

IIRC the mustang II's were all floor shifted (no column cable shift mounts)

Avoid Mustang II. Weird small size bell, Flexplate and torque convertor. (smaller diameter, fewer teeth)
If you are switching from an FMX, you will need a C4 driveshaft (Different length, different yoke),
Flexplate may not work as C4 and FMX use a different convertor and yours may not be drilled for C4 pattern.
Flexplate tooth count/diameter has to match bellhousing size or starter won't fit. If bell/flywheel size is changed, then the goofy spacer plate behind the flywheel will also need to be changed or it will interfere with the starter fit/function. (Probably starter, or starter nose as well)
Kickdown is trans-specific (but can be bent to fit), and shifter linkage may need some attention.
Plan on making up new transmission lines.
If you go FMX to AOD route, starter, shim plate and flexplate will fit (AOD and FMX use the same flexplate). Regul8r and California Johnny did this swap and will have some good info on this.

So ford had a better idea. this trans is a pan fill, does that mean it can not use the 157 tooth flex plate,or the mustang bell housing. Looks like I am back to the aod like it had in first place.
