Just trying to put together a 429 and a c-6 to put into my 1978 cougar.  I need some help with a couple of things.  I need an oil pan but I'm not sure if a standard one from summit racing would fit or it I should find a used one.  The one I got with the engine is absolutely huge.  I think it might be a rear sump for a truck.  Also it looks like from quick measurements that the transmission mount will be a few inches past the cross member.  I'm looking for any thoughts and any help anyone can provide.

Thanks,
Greg

For the oil pan, make sure you get one for a car!  The 460 that's in my Torino now was originally in a '74 F-250 2WD that I wrecked.  I thought it would fit (LOOKED close enough to a car pan), but I was wrong.  If you're handy with a welder, you could probably notch a 2WD truck pan to have the extra quart.

And if you looks at the crossmember supports on the frame, you'll find there are two holes in each support.  The front hole is for the C-4 and FMX; the rear hole is for the C-6.   On a related note, you'll either have to find a car with a C-6 to pirate a driveshaft from, or have your current driveshaft cut down.

Don't forget some big block front springs if your car didn't come with either a 351M or a 400...and good luck!

Milodon and Canton make front sump pans that will fit.  My first one was from a mid 70's lincoln.  (I think any mid or full size car from 1972-1977 that had the 429 or 460 will work for an oil pan)

Don't forgte about motor mounts, they are tough to come by, and the kick down rod is specific to the big block mid size cars, but Lokar makes a nice universal cable.

I've got a 523" in my 78 Cougar (460 block) The mounts are hard to find.. I paid $100 for mine from C&C Auto Ranch a few years ago, and it was worth it.

Any car oil pan should work.

I made a kickdown rod with a welder and a length of pipe.. I just lengthened my 351W rod in one section.

What is your C6 from? On my Cougar, I had an extra hole... but on my truck, I used a very long C6 from a Lincoln, and had to drill a hole in the frame rails to slide the cross member back.
