It's been a while so some of these parts aren't just falling into place for me. These (there are two) were bolted to A pillar above the upper door hinge. After test fitting the fenders I can't for the life of me see these bolting up to the fenders. .

I'm not seeing a place where my fenders line up for that. I was thinking maybe there is another piece that bolts on to the fender, but I have no idea. The picture from '04 shows a wear pattern on the bracket for a bolt head though.

It should be on your fenders. Just installed the front clip on the '72 Formal and they use a speed nut and bolt to attach and help with lining up the fender body line.

I have to get to the garage and double check the fenders but I don't recollect seeing anything on the fender sticking out to meet that bracket.

I made it to the garage today but had to run back because I forgot to take the pictures. I left these larger for detail.
This first picture is of the left upper A pillar with door open to show where on the pillar the "L" shaped bracket from my first post bolts onto. The second picture is from the fender well (no liner in place and shows where the "L" bracket mounts and two threaded insert on the fender where I assume there is a bolted brace or bracket. It's been 11 years so I don't remember what they'd look like to even know if I have them or ever had them. This third picture is the inside of the right fender showing the two threaded inserts for this mythical bracket. Edited by lynchster - 04-December-2016 at 2:37PM |

I'd love to see a picture of the inside of your fenders! I have the brackets for the A pillars but my fenders don't have any tabs on them to bolt to these brackets, just threaded inserts.

I think the brackets are 72 only. I saw the inside of a 73 fender online and while the inner fender brace has the recesses where the threaded inserts are they lack the inserts and aren't even drilled for them.
I'm thinking it might have something to do with crash testing and the fact that the newer bodies had the huge slab bumpers on them. Or it was strictly cost savings. |

Chuck, I should have some but I spent a weekend out consolidating 26 boxes of Torino/Montego stuff into 7 totes. I saw them but they are buried now. I have 2-3 pair zip tied together.
Keep in mind: Here are my fenders: I had brackets on my fenders and the cowl. In my case here is the shot of the cowl, before the bracket: Here is another picture of the fender bracket: |

Thanks Andy! At least I know what they look like now. I almost wonder if the nose was pulled off mine one time because I don't remember removing them.
"Buried" is unfortunate, I'll ask Joe if he has any laying around that he'll sell. |

Chuck, I found a pair on some fenders. Here is a shot of one. I'll get them off this weekend and box them and the bolts up for you.
