Hi Guys,

Just got the overhauled 351C back in my '73 Torino and have to juice up the motor to about 2500 RPM before the oil pressure budges from zero. After that, it goes to 70 PSI and idles around 40. Have confirmed the situation with two different gauges and tubing from the pick off behind the distributor. Any ideas?
Thanking you in advance.

Guil

Does your oil filter has an anti drain valve? I would just get a motorcraft filter and swap it first.

What does it do if you don't touch the throttle?
The oiling path for the Cleveland goes from the pump and then feeds the passenger side head, cam, and crankshaft before crossing over at the back of the block to the drivers side head. The lag could just be the path. Is the engine tapping at start up?

yeah, sounds like it's just draining back. one of my cars started doing that, and i noticed the filter didn't have the anti-drain back valve (most import engines have it in the filter) and  most domestic cars had it in the block or pump. as long as it's not ticking or rattling at start up then your ok at least till you figure it out Wink

Interesting side note. I had to change my oil filter due to a clearance issue with the aftermarket engine mount. One of the reasons (there's 2)no one list a driver side engine mount for a Cleveland.
The oil filter on my car happens to be the same filter my 93 Escorts used. It seems to work fine and looks like the filter attached to a Cleveland in the factory manual.

Interesting post by some guy who dissected different brands of oil filters incase anyone is interested.

Did you remember to put the gasket between the engine and the oil pump?
A little air leak there can make the system drop it's prime.

For motor mounts, Cleveland uses the same mounts as a Windsor, and there is a left, and a right...
