    Posted: 23-February-2017 at 1:09AM
There's a pair for sale on my local CL that is for 351C 2bbl off a 70 Mustang, and said they should fit all Mustang, Cougar, Torino from 65 to 73. That's a HUGE range of body styles. He gave me the part # 3319, but didn't find that number in the Hedman online catalog. Sent him a message asking him if his Mustang was auto trans and power steering. Any other questions I should ask to see if these would fit in my 72 Montego with no serious headaches beyond the usual installation of headers in general?

I though Carl, Regul8r, posted something a while back about headman headers being listed for Mustangs and Torinos to 1973 that didn't fit well in a 1972+ Torino.  I think his was for a 351W, but IIRC, the headers didn't work.  I think sometimes the aftermarket guys get the Torino years mixed up with the Mustangs.  Why would they cut the Torino off at 1973, when the same chassis was used 1972-76?

Actually, I did a search.  It's on this page partway down.  You'll see the pics of the headers.

in looking at the pics of the headers carl had problems with... they are basically a shorty header, and looking at the drivers side one i can tell it's made for a mustang or early unibody strut tower car.
so if you're going for a shorty header for a 351W i used JBA #1653S they fit with very minor mods!!!here are some pics with explanations from my thread:

matt if you have a 351W/ fmx they should fit pretty easy and if you have the stock motor mounts there should be even less of an issue!!!

I kinda suspected the Mustang/72+Torino connection, but thanks for the confirmation! And thanks Carl for the trial and error on those headers! Have a Cleveland, so that limits my choices quite a bit, but I'll keep an eye out. $100 bucks for Headman Headers had me hoping......

In this case, they are probably confusing it with Mustang, as the 67-73 mustang and 66-71 torino use (mostly) the same engine compartment.

Many other cars will show it compatable to whenever year catalytic converters started...Thumbs Down

it might be in the link up above but I've gone around & around with Kevin at Hedman regarding fitment for a 72 Ranchero. IIRC he's stuck on 72 Ranchero is not the same as 72 Torino and basically refused to build me a set of large diameter tube headers

they have some confusion as to the unibody construction / model year change and that Torino & Ranchero are built the same year for year. it's almost like their application listings got dropped in a windstorm & quickly shuffled back into a pile before anybody caught on

depending upon model year / header maker / brand model line & tubing size it's possible that some part numbers can fit across body lines ie; Cougar / Mustang / Fairlane / Torino / Ranchero / Montego

but it's not guaranteed that every maker's product will cross body line fitment just because another does, 2V's & small diameter tubes have the best chance. another deal breaker is where the collectors finish out, i have a set of 2V headers that slide in on both sides easily but dump straight into the crossmember, no idea what body they're really for?

FWIW IMO from my conversation with Kevin, Hedman is so gunshy about making a sale because their catalog is riddled with errors & they've taken returns on almost every application. my take away is that you can't trust that what they offer is going to fit what they say it will, if it does there was a significant amount of luck involved & it's a darn shame Cry
