Hello.

New member here. My name is John and Im in Pa. I don't have a Torino, yet. We are in the middle of some life changes and I do not think I will be able to get a Torino for a few years. Sold both classic cars that I had within the last year. I had a 72 LTD convertible that I owned for 15 years. Re-built her from the ground up. Sold it last year, also sold a 77 F250, 351M 4speed truck. Im well versed the the 335 series engine, my LTD had a 400 that I warmed over.

I'm glad Bubba's articles have made it over here, they were a wealth of information when I first started my LTD.

Thanks for accepting me and I look forward to learning alot more about Torinos

Welcome John, you won’t find a better place to gain Torino knowledge! Sorry you had to part with your LTD after so many years, I’ll bet it was a fun cruiser. Always loved the grill / headlight styling on the 71’ & 72’ LTD.

Thanks Chuxster,

I hated to sell it, but I lost my storage and I was losing interest in it. It was a great cruiser. A guy flew out from Az, bought it, and drove it back, crazy!  It made it, no problems.

Sad thing is, I now have a bunch of NOS parts for the LTD that I no longer need.

I’ll bet that was some cross country road trip in a 46 year old LTD. At least the LTD went to a warm, dry climate. As for the NOS parts, I used to sell a lot on EBay, but it takes time and patience. It would be nice to find someone interested in the whole lot, and sell it all at once. I occasionally sell parts on Craigslist, but it seems either you get 3 calls within an hour of the add being posted, or you don’t get a single call until 5 weeks later, it’s just so hit-or-miss

Welcome to the forum John!  Sounds like you had some great Fords in the past.  The dent side Ford pickups are my favorites.  I grew up with a '79 F-150 Indy Support truck with a 460.  When my dad was car shopping in 1972, he actually looked at the '72 LTD Convertible, as he really wanted a convertible.  In the end, he was won over by the smaller size and sporty looks a the Torino fastback (which is the car I now own).  My Torino has a 400 in it too, which has just been warmed over by Tmeyer with roller cam/rockers and high compression pistons.
Feel free to post pics of your old Fords.  Here's a how to thread if you need help:

Thanks Vince. I've wanted to get Tmeyer to do some work on my next 400. He knows his 335's. I'll try to post some pics of some of my old Fords. Your 1 family Torino looks great. That must have been some memory when he bought it. I remember my father trading in his 64 Falcon in on a 70 Cutlass 4dr. The Cutlass was nothing special, but going to the dealership in 1 car and leaving in another is still etched in my mind.

californiajohnny, Raptor, Legend, and Lynchester- Thanks

Tbird- I agree. I sold a very rusty but original 67 Olds 442 in order to buy the LTD. Then over the years I rebuilt the engine, rebuilt the suspension, replaced the top and carpet, painted and detailed the engine compartment, and repaired the floors. It was a delight to drive.

Mantis- I not 100% sure what Im looking for. I like the 70-71, but they seem to be priced well out of my range. I really like the sportsroof models anywhere between 68-73. Id prefer a 351C 4speed, but that might be had to come by in a 72-73. If that doesn't happen, I'll build my 400 sitting in the garage, put a 4 speed auto behind it and install the 3.50 limited slip 9" center section that I have.

that car must be from Australia mate LOL if you have the pics on a computer, you should be able to click on the pic, it should show as full screen, at the bottom there should be an icon that looks like a two tone green mountain? click that 2 times it should rotate the pic??? do that to each pic thats wrong and then go back out and post each pic normally... should work... i've had a couple like that from my smart phone Confused

I ended up deleting everything I uploaded. Every one was upside down. I found the mountain icon, clicked it twice and the picture turned upsidedown, but I couldn't upload the upsidedown picture. I'll try my other laptop from work some other time

Sometimes cell phone pictures show up oriented incorrectly in the forum. You have to load it on a computer and rotate it to fix it.

If you want upload your photos and I can fix them for you once they are uploaded.

Those are nice vehicles John!  The LTD looks very sharp in red and I like those wheels you installed.   Did you modify the 400 when you rebuilt it?  One day I'd love to get an old dent side.  A buddy of mine has had about half a dozen of them over the past ten years, but I never have the money when he sells.

When I did the 400, there was no noticeable wear on the cylinder walls, it still had the factory cross-hatch. So I re used the pistons, installed new rings and bearings, rebuilt the heads, (5 valve guides were worn and replaced).  I did use a Ford Motorsport double roller timing chain, and an Edelbrock cam and valve springs. I also added dual exhaust. Years later I picked up an Edelbrock 4bbl intake and carb, but the LTD ran so well that I ended up using it on the F250.
