The 1989 5.8l/351W I bought for the Pinto came with a small block C6. I am going with a T5 for now on it, maybe a TKO later. Was in a van if that matters.

My 72 Ranchero has a 351C with (surprisingly to me anyway) a C4. Any thoughts either way on swapping it or not? Really want to go with a manual on this as well, but for now I thought I should see if I should use the C6 I have before getting rid of it. Might be a few years if ever before I can swap to a manual.

I was planning on selling the C6 since it is a small block version, should be easy to sell.

Storing the C6 for later isn't really an option, with 3 project cars I am really out of space.

Thanks,
Russ

Well, I have a T5 bellhousing. I went nuts and bought a Quick Time one that also will work for some TKO transmissions down the road.

Of course it went on sale after I buy it. Shocked
Now, if you have a WC V8 T5 laying around......
LOL

As far as the C6 being stronger, no debate there. Just not sure if it is worth the hassle of changing it.

Thanks,
Russ

I like C6's for BBF power and they are my choice for a Ford 3 speed transmission that has to be ultimately durable, that said there is A LOT more offered in the aftermarket to make the C4 a great dependable trans. The benefits of the C4 over a C6 is of course weight savings, overall size, bolt-on bell housings and less parasitic power loss through the trans. The C4 is also a quicker and harder shifting trans. There are many C4's that live behind stout 460+ c.i. BBF engines. If additional information is needed go here for Ford transmission questions and/or inquiries, there is a fellow that goes by the log-in name Gregaust, he has an absolute wealth of C4 and C6 knowledge!   https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/fordtransmissionforum/ . Hope this helps.

Thanks!
For now I will likely keep the C4 in the car since I know it works. If the C6 doesn't sell I'll rethink things later on. Main focus is on my 79 Pinto right now, but I am still always thinking of the Ranchero in the back of my mind.

C6 in a Pinto?

is it a big tire tube chassis Pro-Stock car?

the Pinto uses a special small diameter flywheel / flex for the C4 with a V8, i'd be shocked if a C6 would fit in the tunnel w/o metal work, and then you'd be making it harder far everything else you need to fit. FWIW 99% of serious set up for race only Pintos are using C4's. that small of a car and if it's traction limited the C4 should do well with some basic updates

C6 in the Ranchero Censored yeah!

I was going to put it in the Pinto until I decided that I really wanted a manual so I might as well just do that now instead of "someday". Was already mentally planning the tunnel cutting. Although we just got a cheap plasma cutter, might have been fun. LOL

Yeah, reason I asked here was for the Ranchero. Pinto is getting a T5 for now, should hold up behind a stockish 89 351W as long as I don't get stupid. Shocked

Thanks,
Russ

you may still get to try out the plasma cutter unless your bell is pretty compact,

what tooth count flywheel is the bell for?

157. It's the Mustang II sized one. So it should fit no problem.
Thanks,
Russ
