My 1973 Gran Torino has the 2.79 conventional 8 inch rear axle, I was wondering where the drain plug is, i’d like to change the fluid eventually.

i drilled and tapped both of the 9"'s in my torino using a 1/8"NPT tap and a 1/8" pipe plug

no drain plug factory, you'd need to pull both axles out about 6" and remove the 3rd member, wipe it out and drill and tap like in the above pics

Or, use a suction pump and empty it thru the fill hole.
Unless you got water in the diff. If wet, pull the chunk and wipe/flush the housing, gears, bearings...

That’s what I’ll probably do, hopefully there’s no water or moisture inside.

i'm not too sure you'll get much of a hose snaked down in there, but maybe? it would save a lot of work. i'd just drill / tap & use a magnetic plug
