Hi, last year, I imported a 1970 Torino GT with the 302 engine from North Carolina to Germany. VIN 0A35F198462, actually produced 18 Feb 1970. Had to spend considerably more money than I had figured to get it into a shape acceptable to German authorities but it's worth every penny . It's certainly an eyebrow raiser over here. Torinos are rare, much more so than e.g. Mustangs. Will be happy to post pics. Christian |

Welcome to the forum Christian! Torinos aren't too common in North America, so I can only imagine how rare they are in Germany.
I have upgraded you to a new member so you have full access to the site now. Please share some pics of your car, we'd love to see it! Here is a great web page on Torinos based out of Germany: |

Thanks, Vince and John!
Photos below. I think it must be the only one in Munich. One of the - already known to me - highlights when I got the car was a rust hole in the driver seat floorboard, worthy of an iceberg hit. I think this was fixed reasonably good. One of the surprises was a broken wheel in the gearbox that had completely gone to pieces. Luckily, those pieces were found in time... Vince, thanks for the pointer to the German forum; indeed I found that, too, and am already a member ;) |

Thanks guys! @californiajohnny - yes! The fragments were spotted, and this wheel was properly replaced with real stuff. It was quite surprising. The guys at the shop said they had not seen anything like it.

Nylon Timing gears...
Cause of premature death for many early 70s Windsor engines. Does your manual 3 speed transmission have a floor shifter or is it column shift?

Beautiful Torino! The white paint with the laser stripe looks excellent! From the Marti Report, it was a pretty low optioned car. There were only 1745 Torinos with the 302 and a 3 speed, so you have a pretty usual version of the Torino. I am also curious if it is a three speed column shift or a floor shift.

Hi Vince and Bigbird, this is a '3 on a stick' column shifter. Really quite unusual in particular in Germany. I really don't get why the ford guys thought nylon gear wheels were ever a good idea... cost-cutting I guess? Have there been other engines with this? Edited by garrincha - 26-April-2019 at 9:48PM |

My '86 Econoline's 302 had the plastic timing gear teeth. Dealer shop mech told me it was done for a combination of noise and weight reduction. He also said it may have been easier to machine plastic teeth over metal ones. Who knows?

nylon timing gear teeth are to reduce noise & valve train harmonics some of the winning Pro Stock racers actually used the stock nylon gears rather than the fancy aftermarket double row chains. unfortunately most plastics have a life term then they crumble to

Yup, that's what I always understood. For production cars it was there to reduce NVH. The Big three weren't too concerned about longevity of parts in that era, so long term durability was rarely a top concern. Very cool that it's a three on the tree Torino. That is one rare car you have!
