I have been trying to find info on what size exhaust manifold bolts are for a 1973 ford 429 but can't find anything online as to what fits. It will be for ford exhaust manifolds and not headers. Thanks in advance - dave

They are 3/8"-16 threads. Originally a 1973 429 would have had 15 - 3/8-16 bolts 2 5/16" long 1 - stud and washer assembly - 3/8-16 3 7/16" long. If you are looking for something to be "correct" they do have repros, like this that would be pretty close to what you car should have had: Otherwise, you could just use some quality fasteners of the same dimensions. I just used some grade 8 bolts with lock washers for my manifolds, mind you, I had the intention of replacing them with headers.

I was able to get 1/4" intervals when I got my manifold bolts? Mine you I have a 335 series motor, but I got all my bolts, and they were just a tad shorter (maybe a 1/16" or so) than the originals.
These should be close enough to replace the 2 5/16." |

Vince, if I am reading the ad correctly those bolts are presently unavailable. However Bolt Depot has 3/8 16 X 2 1/4 zinc plated grade 5 available for about 40 cents each. Zinc plated ok?

Sorry, I just did a quick Google search for 2 1/4" bolts, so I didn't notice they were out of stock. I am sure you can get them from most places that stock bolts, including auto parts stores. I am sure you could get them in Grade 8 too, but that's probably overkill for a manifold. As for the zinc plating, OEM would have been just black oxide, which has minimal rust resistance. Zinc would be better for rust resistance and many aftermarket OEM style replacement manifold bolts are zinc coated, so I don't see a problem. Most of the Grade 8 bolts here are Cadmium plated, if you prefer that. You could also try to find them in stainless if you prefer. I used cooper antiseize on mine bolts.

Thanks, Vince, we have a local old time hardware that I will be checking with, they usually have a good supply of quality US made hardware.
