Hi all, I'm in the process of repairing the AC system in my '78 Cougar (351W) and was wondering if you could answer a question I had:
Why do these systems have suction line accumulators, which are typically only found in orifice tube systems? Are they necessary to have there? It seems other TXV systems didn't have them at all. I ask because I have to replace the hoses, and the accumulator appears to be pretty much non-replaceable if the fittings on it can't be reused since I cant find the part anywhere. Also, does anyone have any advice on rebuilding and/or retrofitting these AC systems? I have the option of going with either r12 and r134a at the same cost as each other.
