Ok last fall before removing bat. decided to start one more time. Did not start fried small ground wore to inner fender. Decided to try starting last week and check grounds. Turn key click nothing. Redid bat terminals same. Though solenoid.Tried jumping it nothing.Checked with tester I have power on both sides. Starter? why? If it is started any ideas on a up grade.

if it fried the body ground, that shows that the engine block ground is insufficient to carry the load of the starter. replace the Negative battery cable and see what happens. the block ground needs to go directly to the block, not the cylinder head, not the water pump, not to a front accessory bracket directly to a clean tight connection to the block

Below the alternator in the front if the block is a threaded hole for the cable end. The cable first makes a stop at the frame then onto the block. Rear of #4 cylinder is grounded to firewall. Same size bolt as front ground IIRC.

Best case, the ground runs to the block, frame grounds to the block, Body grounds to the block. Original body ground should be at the rear of the block and run to the firewall on passenger side.

IIRC there was a ground jumper from the right side engine mount bolt to the frame,
and another from the trans dip tube securing bolt to the firewall. they usually end up in the pile of extra parts |

I had no body or frame grounds when i got my Thunderbird. Car was already on its second (dead) engine. Went to AutoZone and got a couple short heavy cables with eyelets on the ends. Black Jacketing makes them disappear. I think they were for lawn mowers, they still have these out on the shelves.

Block ground is likely bad, starter is grounding/trying to ground thru the body ground, which isn't very big... |
