brand new to restoration. 72 GTS I found has a 460 plopped into it. The #s on the heads say “D3VE-a2a.” From what I’ve been able to find out that means they were made in the early 70s for a Lincoln. Other than that I have no idea where it can from or when it was made. I’m thinking since I’ve never rebuilt an engine knowing where it came from might help me figure out what I need to do to it. Any help in figuring out where it might have come from would be appreciated.

Do you have the block casting number too? Is there a partial VIN anywhere?

Also look at intake and exhaust manifolds for part numbers may narrow down the possibilities. D3 heads were used from late '72 into the early 80's.

Yeah, It's a Hybrid...It burns gas and tires. No matter how good she looks, somebody, somewhere, is tired of her sh*t. Beauty is skin deep, ugliness goes clear to the bone. |

not necessarily from a Lincoln, just means the Lincoln division paid the development $

Haven’t found it yet. Supposed to be on the driver side on the block itself right?

I had the intake # but apparently didn’t write it down. I’ll have to look at it again when I get back home.

Older 460 parts are better than the newer late 80's models etc. The heads and intakes never got better after the 70's, they actually went backwards. The emissions etc, for those late 460 trucks, they ruined the potential and Ford put no more development into the engine.
