Hello Friends,
I hope all is well. Thank you for my membership. I am the proud new owner of a 1972 Ford Gran Torino sport fastback. I recently purchased the car from Street Side Classics in Fort Worth. The car is still on the dealers showroom with a sold sign on it as I wait for the auto transport company to pick it up and deliver it to me here in Inglewood, California. I owned a 1969 57E Fathom green Chevelle SS 396 in 1993 when I was a young mustache (23) and the majority of my sphere of influence drive either a Chevelle or a Camaro. I wanted something different than the Chevy status quo. I looked on the internet for cars I don't see on the streets, for example, I called on a 1970 Buick Electra 225 coupe and it had just sold. You see I was born in 1970 so I wanted a '70s car. I called on a 1975 Pontiac Gran Ville convertible and it had just sold. I was having the worst luck finding an affordable classic that you don't frequently see. A few weeks ago I watched the movie Gran Torino for the umpteenth time. I was intrigued by the car and had an epiphany. Get a 1972 Gran Torino. So I searched for YouTube videos on the car and one from Street Side Classics popped up. Coincidently the video was only three weeks old. So I searched the dealers website on a Saturday night and there it was. I immediately emailed the dealer. I called and left messages Sunday and Monday. They were closed until Tuesday. So Tuesday I called and the salesman told me I was the first of seven inquiries about the car and he returned my email first. Unbelievable, the car had not sold and I had a shot. So I took my shot and the car is mines. The salesman tells me he gets walk in customers who want to buy it but he sadly informs them the car is sold. Stay tuned for pictures and video links of me taking delivery from the auto transport company. Happy Holidays. Best, John Strickland

Welcome John. You're in the right place. Interesting how you ended up with your '72. Similar story here. I was looking at a '66 Impala SS with a 400 small block and 200-4R AOD. All upgrades done! Looked stock, but wasn't. Very pricey.
The Gran Torino I have now went up for sale, for a lot less! It needed a ton of work. There's still a few things things left, A/C before summer and possibly a white stripe. All in all great cars and not too many of them left.

Hey John, welcome aboard. I think the hunt for my car was more exciting than getting the keys and title in hand. Then the realization that there was a lot of work ahead.
I too had tried for a different classic. We had a 68 GS-400 4-speed and I wanted to find one as it was my favorite car that my Dad owned. After seeing the huge dollars they commanded and the linited inventory, I stumbled across the 72 GTS. Fate I guess got me into Fords again. Looking forward to the pictures. And get good insurance coverage along with a dash cam.

Welcome to the Forum! Congrats on the 72! If it's the Green with Vinyl Top, that's a really clean looking buy! Love going into the Street Side Classics here in Arizona, they have car shows a couple times a year + you get to wander through the joint and check out all the cars for sale.

Correct! I bought the green one from the Fort Worth Showroom. Should be here Saturday. I feel like an eleven year old in the eighties waiting to get a RM 80 2-stroke dirt bike for Christmas the week of. Thank you.
Best, John

Covid-19 sucks. I was going to fly in and check out the showroom, that place looks like a grown man's toy box! Thank you.

Hi John,
I looked at your Gran Torino at StreetSide Classics in Ft. Worth and was very interested in the car. If you would like my 2 cents on the car and not just a salesmen's pitch, I would be glad to discuss it with you. I live one hour from the StreetSide show room. Bob
