Look into Hagerty or Grundy. They are both classic auto insurers and pay full value in the event of a loss. I am covered for $20k and it is about $165/year.

I'll check them out, but I think I'm paying $170 for 18,500.

Yes, some insurance companies now have decent coverage for classic cars. I gather State Farm is a good one also now. I have Hagerty's also, at about $150 a year.

Good job on the repairs! It sounds like the damage was minimal, but I am sure the lesson was big. Did you get a mechanical or solid state voltage regulator?
On the insurance, I have used Hagerty and have no major complaints. I did have to fight a bit to get my car insured for the proper value as I didn't agree with their price guide, but other than that, they have been fine.

Unsure, I assume solid given the size. It's a VR440 from Napa. I didn't have to replace it, but given the history of the one in my car now I've decided to keep this on hand in case I run into issues later.

This thread has been pretty quiet. How is your car running?

They came from the factory with a red plastic cover over the positive post at least as far back as my 1965 Thunderbird. Fords quick 2cent fix.
