I bought this almost a month ago. Just having title issues so I can not get it across the border into Canada.

It is a 1973 Gran Torino wagon. Has a 400 and a C6, 9" rear with 2:70 rear gears.

Future mods are a Lincoln Town car frame with air ride, 7.3L godzilla swap with a 10r80 or 10r140 trans. Not sure which one.

You might also think of other possible swaps too. The later transmissions have really low 1st gears. The 6R80 has a 4.17:1 1st gear, and that one is fairly sorted out, while the ten speeds have a lot of bad reviews still. Those need more time for development.

The 6R80 can handle a lot of towing, and there is a controller for it($1300). Those come in two versions, the 5.0 can fit SBF's, and the other one fits the late V6's. That one has what looks like a round bell housing pattern, and it fit behind the turbo 3.5's and 2.7's etc. Any of those as a package can work with the matching PCM, and they should fit in the engine bay.

FWIW i'd do a GearVendors overdrive and 3.73 rear before an engine / trans swap

Those are great for an existing engine and trans you are happy with. The new 7.3 crate engine sounds really good, but I would not be thrilled by the prices and the typical OHV fuel economy of a big block.

IMO the 400 is Ford's unpolished gem, just basic updates (compression and cam)and it's an efficient torque monster in a relatively compact package. while there's nothing wrong with the factory iron castings for intended use, swapping to alloy heads & intake takes the power to weight ratio to crazy town

well she's all yours now ... either more work than you bargained for, or a driver you can work on the little things for a flip at some point. there's a Love Wagons crowd that will probably be happy to fill the $ gap in your current balance if/when you decide to part ways
