I found a 1969 Thunderjet engine with a C6 from a tbird and thinking about putting it into my 73 GTSW with a 400. Is the 69 thunderjet worth it?

How much are they asking for the engine? A '69 Thunderjet will have a lot more power than a '73 400. The tough part will be finding OEM motor mounts. The C6 will work with the 429.
There are aftermarket motor mounts made by Crites, but then you need to use Crites headers since those mounts locate the engine differently than the OEM mounts. |

If you're wanting to run as-is, there's isn't anything special IMO except the potential to build it out (ie, make it a 460 or 502, or more). And parts would be cheaper (per horsepower) for it than your 400 since it's popular and is easy to make power. If you can find some C9VE or D0VE heads from a full size in a junkyard, and regardless if you home port it or not, now you've got a high compression 429 that is closer to the CobraJet numbers. Depends on what you're looking to do! Like Vince said, it's already an upgrade over the 400 when running stock, but has a potential through the roof.

As long as it doesn't have the power steering in the front cover...
The trans on the 429 might have a weird output as well, Ford did some colossally stupid things in the late 60s. I think they were all high on dope. Damned hippies...GET-OFF-MY-LAWN!!! (Seriously, it would explain a lot...)

The 429 "should" have C8SE or C9VE heads, essentially the same as DOVE-C heads. This year 429 will require you to use a torque converter with an 1.85 crankshaft pilot, like an FE engine/C6 would use(possibly even one with a 1.25" pilot, but those are kinda rare). As Randy stated above! Yes, be aware of the crank mounted PS pump, had one on a '68 429 out of a T-bird, it also had a C6 with a weird bellhousing to clear the T-bird's floorboard and a low spline count output shaft, I would re-use the C6 that the 400 is bolted to. If this engine does have the crankshaft mounted PS pump, it will also have a different water pump design as well. '70 and later timing cover and parts forward can be installed to utilize "regular" later model water pump and accessories. Just a heads up and hope this helps.
