Anyone have thoughts or suggestions when it comes to using unleaded fuel in a 72 351C. I was able to buy a lead additive but the supplier is no longer making this item. Proper lubrication is the concern........ Thanks

lead was to lube the exhaust valve seats, putting in hardened seats will cure that.  running unleaded won't cause damage right away but over a long time eventually the valves can sink at which point you'll need to rebuild the heads and install hardened seats ...

1972 Ford engines were designed for low lead fuel, so I am not sure of they had the hardened exhaust seats yet. Rockatansky might know. What I do know is that my 1972  400, which uses essentially the same heads as your 351-2V, ran unleaded for decades and to 150,000 miles without any ill effects.

They used a "hardening" process on the heads but no valve seats at the time.

i read somewhere that at some point an induction hardening process was used and those seats tended to crack. consider that the original seats are likely work hardened by now and may last a good long time. also consider that TEL was added as an anti-knock agent, it lubricating and cushioning effect on valves and seats may be an old wives tale?

Got a moron to put about a dozen deer slugs in his gas tank to "Make up for the lead" back in the day.
(Just the slug, not the shell/powder). He actually pulled them apart and put them in his Monte Carlo's tank. Good Times...
